About Ellen

I am a US citizen and a native English speaker. One of my greatest joys is to see a student be able to speak in English the way that he or she wants to speak, so that communications are equal and open between people.

My recent master's degree is in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), including two practica (TESOL and Linguistics) and a thesis. Moreover, I have consulted and trained professionals flying into Boston for individually tailored, intensive English trainings within short timeframes for more than 6 years. For all of ESL/EFL, I have been an instructor and teacher for 10+ years. My objective is to see the best potential of every individual be realized in skills and strategies that are the most meaningful to the person to achieve his/her goals.

My bachelor's degree in Education, with the additional speech and language pathology emphasis and training, included special education. I have been a high school academic and jobs coach/trainer for young adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Finally, I am a Miracle League volunteer assisting young adults with ASD.

Through my customized trainings, I look forward to seeing you find greater confidence while succeeding in your desired English communications goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

My bachelor's degree in Education and speech pathology/audiology included special education. I have been a high school school studies, social, and jobs coach/trainer for young adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Finally, I am a Miracle League volunteer assisting young adults with ASD.

English

My master's degree is in TESOL, which was part of the Department of English. We were required to take graduate school English courses. I have also taught English, for both classes and private students.

ESL/ESOL

I have a masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), including two practica and a thesis. Moreover, I have consulted and trained professionals flying into Boston for customized, intensive trainings within short timeframes for more than 6 years. For all of ESL/EFL, I have been an instructor and teacher for 10+ years. My greatest desire is to see the best potential of every individual be realized in skills and strategies that are the most meaningful to each individual client/student to achieve his/her goals.

Microsoft Word

I have a master's degree in education requiring a written thesis using Microsoft Word and APA standards. Additionally, I have been an editor of multimillion dollar proposals for an international company, using Microsoft Word extensively in copyediting, proofreading, substantial editing, and developmental editing. As a college instructor, I use Microsoft Word for one of my jobs.

Speech

I have been a speech and language therapist; my bachelor's degree was in Speech. I provide customized, concentrated trainings in conference and corporate language presentations for professionals. Additionally, I was a guest speaker at the international ESP (English for Specific Purposes for Professionals) conference for speaking skills.

Writing

I tutor writing and enjoy every individual finding his or her voice. I also want them to feel the confidence of knowing they have the skills sets to comfortably proofread and edit their writing when needed. It is important that students have the possibility to practice creative writing and free verse as well as the typical academic style.
