My experience has included teaching elementary school in Buena Park, CA for eighteen years at the same school. My jobs included teaching grades 1-6, and I was a Title I teacher who worked with children who needed help in reading and math.
We moved from Orange County to San Diego in 1987. At that time, I became very involved in my own children's education. I volunteered at their schools, drove to all of the after school activities and attended their sports activities. After a year, I wanted to continue my education coursework, knowing that I would want to teach again sometime soon.
I attended the University of San Diego and UCSD Extension. I obtained my Special Ed, Learning Disabilities, Counseling, Pupil Personnel Serviced and Ed Therapy credentials. I was hired in Poway School District as a Resource Specialist for two years. I, also taught at the Nativity Catholic School as a Resource Specialist. After all of this, I decided to tutor and have had several clients for five years.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I just finished this past school year as a Special Ed Aide to two first grade children with Asperger's Syndrome. Each child is different, and has their own difficulties. I enjoyed working with these children, and understand a lot of their challenges.
I happen to love to draw, and have taken many workshops and drawing classes at UCSD. I feel that I could teach a basic course without any trouble.
My Special Ed background has allowed me to work and teach many children who are dyslexic. I know many techniques to help the children the best that I can. Each case is individual, and must be individually tailored to that child.
My teaching career of over 20 years has been geared towards teaching grades K-6.
I also have substitute experience in all of these grades.
I am a credentialed elementary school teacher.
I have taught first grade using "Open Court". The program is based on phonics, and it is a very successful reading program for new readers.
After witnessing the various programs that have cycled through the school system, I believe that phonics-based approaches are still the most successful.
I have my Special Ed credential in mild to moderate, Resource Specialist credential, Pupil Personnel Services and Counseling credentials and my Educational Therapist certificate from U.C. San Diego.
I am currently working in a Special Day Class (K-3) in Del Mar, CA. I have approximately 5 years of classroom experience in the Special Rd programs in San Diego County.
I have taught Title I elementary studentsand been a resource teacher. One of
the first things I teach my students are ways to stay on task through good organizational skills. This is constantly reinforced throughout the year in my classes. Children of all aptitude levels must be given tools that will help them be as successful as possible in their schoolwork.
