I'm told all the time that it takes a different type of person to teach math. Most people you meet will openly tell you how much they hate math. I have always believed that people who hate math do so because they never had the right teacher. The right teacher can make math understandable, and even fun! Success in math gives you a self confidence that is hard to describe. It is a feeling of accomplishment that you never thought you would feel. My job as a math teacher is to make math less scary to students, and make them believe that they can be good at it if they work hard and keep an open mind.
I have taught Middle School Math for 3 years, and specialized in preparing students for the MCAS Math exam. I am well versed in Numbers Theory, Integers, Fractions, and working with solving one and two step algebraic equations. I am very good at breaking down hard topics into concepts that are more easy for students to understand. I can make any student understand math better, and get them to believe that they can learn anything.
Prior to becoming a teacher I was a TV weatherman, so I have an extensive background in Math and Science. I love to talk about math (almost as much as the weather), and want to pass on my knowledge to students that want to learn. I am available afternoons during the week, as well as mornings and afternoons on the weekends. My fee is $45/hour, but that can be subject to change if circumstances deem it to be necessary.
I am an outstanding tutor because I have a way of taking concepts that students think are complicated and breaking them down into more easily understood ideas. Teaching math well begins with establishing the foundation of solid math through basic math skills, and then building on those skills and understanding the relationship between those skills and the more difficult concepts that you will see as you progress in math. I can teach math to any level of student! I am that sure of my ability to teach you or your children to be successful in math.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
