New England Jeet Kune Do (Full Instructor)
I love teaching martial arts because I love training. I love training for the many benefits it brings. I've seen in my own life how my practice of Jeet Kune Do has improved my health, my confidence, and ability to stay safe. Throughout my six years of training, and two years of teaching, I've developed a passion to share what I've learned, and to see others gain the same improvment in quality of life that I've experienced.
I've taught friends and I've taught complete strangers, but the feeling of satisfaction when a student takes a hold of the martial art developed by Bruce Lee and makes it their own never changes. There's no substitute for knowing that you've given someone something that can help keep them safe wherever they go, so I look foward to sharing my experience with others.
Whether your in great shape, or even a professional couch potato, you can get something practical from each and every class I teach. I focus on individuals, not mass-marketing or thoughtless tradition. In every class I will focus on what you need. Your strengths, your weaknesses, and everything inbetween will be explored. I will help you to make the most out of your natural abilities, as plentiful or limited as they may be.
I do this by teaching only private, or small group lessons. This keeps the class size low and the class quality high. By teaching out of my private residence, I can also create an informal feel to the class, something that I've found helps some people learn more quickly.
Teaching out of my home also helps me be flexible with scheduling, although I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy.
I am patient, but not indifferent in my teaching style. I will wait as long as it takes, and go over something as many times as it takes for it to sink in and become second nature. Even if we move to something else, I will always go back to what you've struggled with before, because there is nothing I will show you that isn't in some way connected to the art as a whole.
Put it simply, my aim is to help you keep yourself safe and to help you improve your own quality of life. Please contact me today for your first lesson, and we can get you started on the way of the intercepting fist, which in Chinese is called Jeet Kune Do. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified full instructor under Sifu Sean Glynn of New England Jeet Kune Do. I have been training under his supervision for six years, and teaching for two.
During this time, I have put in many hours of practicing and teaching the techniques, body mechanics, and strategies contained within the art.
I've had many opportunities to pressure test my skills, and while one instructor can't know everything, my skill set is well-rounded enough to help people avoid or survive most common self-defense situations.
Lastly, I've had enough experience with violence and other expressions of personal conflict throughout my life to have first-hand knowledge of what often causes situations to go wrong. Knowing how things go wrong helps me teach people about violence prevention, which I consider to be the ultimate goal of any martial art.
