Teaching has often been quoted as a "work of heart", and that it is. I love teaching and helping students reach their inner potential. My teaching background has given me the opportunity to work with many different age levels from, pre-k to grade 6. My passion is in helping those that need that extra boost of confidence and attention to make them successful in school. Every child has an unleashed potential they just have to believe in themselves to achieve it.
For years I have tutored many students and have had great success. My own educational background allows me the right mixture to ensure a positive outcome. During my undergraduate studies, I double majored in psychology and elementary education. I felt that having that combination would serve me well in understanding and persevering with students who need that extra attention and support. My graduate degree focused on school counseling and reading and language development. This continued focus in these two specific areas enhanced my undergraduate passion to teach and help students needing that extra compassion while learning. For ten years I taught Title 1 reading and math. This experience allowed me to teach children concepts at grade level but in a way that made it easier for them to manage. My ability to scaffold students' learning through specific techniques and strategies has been very successful.
I would love to be given the opportunity to make a difference in your child's life. I know that my experiences, passion for teaching and personality will make it easy for your child and I to bond and do some great work together. I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold my certification in elementary education (1-6), reading and language development and school counseling, and my CAGS in administration. I have taught grades k-6 Title 1 reading and math. I have also had my own classroom in grades 5 and 6. I have tutored during the summer privately and have worked for my school system in tutorial summer programs.
