About Sarah

Shalom! I have several years of experience tutoring for bar/bat mitzvah (both teens and adults). I view the bar/bat mitzvah as an important milestone, but it shouldn't be an ending. I hope the preparation will inspire you to become a lifelong learner of Judaism.

I am flexible in my teaching method. I teach how to read each trope so that even after your bar/bat mtizvah you can chose any reading in the Torah or Haftorah to chant in the future. I will also make a recording of the trope so that you can practice from the comfort of your electronic device.

I have taught in excess of 100 students over the years. My experience also includes chanting Torah/haftorah and leading religious services (High Holidays, Shabbat, Festivals). I am on the bimah constantly and can provide helpful tips when it comes to chanting on your "big day."

My primary work is full-time at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I have accumulated skills in this regard in that I am also able to help if someone is encountering challenges with learning the nuances of Microsoft Word and Excel. I also work on cost accounting projects.

Please note that my preference would be to tutor at my home location.

I want to thank you very much in advance for considering me as your tutor. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to chatting with you soon.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hebrew

I have been chanting Torah and haftorah (using troupe) for over 20 years. In addition, I have been leading services (Shabbat, Festival, and High Holiday) for over 20 years as well. I have taught in a number of synagogues and have taught in excess of 100 students over the years. I also have a Prozdor Diploma.
