About Maggie

Bio

My name is Maggie and I graduated from Williams College in 2017. I come from a family of educators, so education and learning has always been something that is really important to me. I want young students to be able to develop the same love of learning that I was lucky enough to develop from a young age. I largely attribute that love of learning to my amazing elementary school, where projects, exploration, and joy were central to the learning processes.

Since graduating from college, I spent a year teaching kindergarten in San Jose California. As a kindergarten teacher, much of my focus was on phonics and reading and writing skills. Even before I had my own classroom, I was doing a lot of teaching and tutoring. During high school and college, I worked at a number of elementary schools as a tutor in a wide range of subjects and grades. My favorite teaching experience has been working at a summer enrichment program for elementary students. This program was focused on learning through fun and support and I think that is how the best learning happens. While most of the teaching and tutoring I have done has been in reading, I also have some experience in teaching science and math and would be more than happy to assist in those areas as well. Math, especially, was always a favorite subject of mine as a student.

A strong math student throughout my own education, I have a solid understanding of mathmatical principles. During the summers, I have worked at a summer enrichment program for elementary school students and our curriculum included math games that help students understand the basic principles. I am patient and understand that math can be a frustrating subject for some and would love to help students find their potential in math!

I spent the past year, teaching kindergarten at a school in San Jose, California. My focus was on phonics, reading, and writing, so I have a lot of experience trying many different strategies to help students break through on these topics. I love to read myself and love passing that enjoyment onto others. As a kindergarten humanities teacher, phonics was the big focus of the year, so I am well equipped with tons of strategies to help with phonics with young readers!

Please reach out if you need any kind of help--from homework help to more specific areas of need, I would love to help! While my experience is mainly with elementary school students, I would be more than happy to tutor middle school students as well. Looking forward to meeting you!
