About Kristina

I have enjoyed working with children and a few adults over the past six and a half years. It is always rewarding to be able to help more people. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. In addition, I have had a speech and language assistant license for the past three years. I am currently pursuing a masters in Speech Pathology. Also, I am Wisnia-Kapp Reading Program certified. I work at a private practice north of Boston. I work with many children who are on IEPs, but also with students who are not on IEPs. My students range from 3-16 years of age.
I provide speech and language, executive function, reading, and tutoring services (core subjects). Typically, I meet the student to see what their needs are and then come up with some strategies that would work for that student. I would assign homework as needed using a calendar or agenda book that the student would have access to at home. I would also provide most or all of the materials.
I am able to travel to see students both north and south of Boston. In the mornings, I am south of Boston and would prefer to work there. In the afternoons, however, I am north of Boston and I can work with students in those areas. My schedule is fairly flexible, so I am willing to work around the student's schedule.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but I do offer make-up sessions.
I look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions you may have!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I have worked with students over the past 4 years who have been diagnosed with Aspergers at schools and at a private practice. I am a licensed speech and language assistant. I have a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Autism

I have worked with students who are on the autism spectrum over the past 4 years in schools and at a private practice. I am also licensed as a speech and language assistant. I have a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Typically, a token reward system is used. A multi-sensory approach is implemented to meet the needs of the individual.

Dyslexia

I currently work with a few dyslexic students at a private practice to help them with reading and math. I have been doing so over the past three and a half years. I am certified in the Wisnia Kapp Reading Program which uses a multi-sensory approach to reading. I also use Fischer Drills and 5x reading strategies.

Elementary (K-6th)

I tutor students in the elementary grades at a private practice. I have been doing so for the past three and a half years. I provide strategies to help students learn efficiently in different subjects. I have tutored students in math, English, science, and social studies.

Phonics

I currently teach reading and phonics at a private practice. I am Wisnia-Kapp Reading Program certified. The program uses a multi-sensory approach to help students learn the alphabet sounds. The program implements colors, noisy vs. quiet sounds, and images to help students retain sounds and to retrieve them.

Study Skills

I have worked at a private practice for the last three and a half years with students to help improve study skills and executive function skills. I have attended executive function workshops. I have a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Typically, I implement an agenda to help plan out study times for exams and quizzes. I also use checklists and tables to support time management, prioritization, and use of the right study tools.
