Fordham University (English)
Hi! My name is Jeffrey, and I'm a graduate of Maynard High School in Maynard, MA and a current student at Fordham College at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. At Fordham I am officially an English major, but still pursue my passions for music and audio/film production at school and around the city. School can be challenging, but I am a firm believer that learning can (and should!) also be fun. I find great reward in helping students realize the joys of learning, as a once-difficult subject becomes one they excel at.
Throughout my high school career, I was a tutor for National Honor Society, tutoring high and middle schoolers in English, math, and science. I am also currently employed as a substitute teacher in my hometown of Maynard, where I teach reading, writing, math, science, and music at the elementary and middle school levels. During the summer, I teach Video Production at a STEM-oriented summer camp called College Academy. Year after year, my students tell me how my class was their favorite, and that they can't wait to come back!
My teaching/tutoring experience has allowed me to see all of the different ways students learn, and how to pair study strategies with a students. If you're looking for a tutor with flexible hours and a passion for education, please don't hesitate to contact me! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have received top marks in my math classes in high school and college - through Calculus I- and was a high school math tutor as a member of National Honor Society.
I currently study English at Fordham University, and have taken numerous courses on both American and World literature. In high school, I received a 5/5 on the AP Language and Composition Exam, 4/5 on the AP Literature and Composition Exam, 34/36 on the English ACT section and a 12/12 on the ACT English/Writing Essay section.
I'm currently an English major at Fordham University, with literature as my primary focus. Literature's combination of technical and artistic elements makes it a subject of constant fascination for me, and I have kindled a love for books all of my life. As far as my qualifications go, I scored a 5/5 on the AP Language and Composition Exam, a 4/5 on the AP Literature and Composition Exam, a 34/36 on the ACT English section, and a 12/12 on the ACT English/Writing section.
I have played trumpet avidly for ten years, with three acceptances into the Massachusetts Central District Concert Band (once as first chair), an acceptance into the Massachusetts Central District Orchestra (first chair), and an acceptance into the Massachusetts All-State Concert Band. In high school, I played in concert band, wind ensemble, and jazz band, played in the Concord Community Band, and currently play in the Fordham Jazz and Chamber Orchestras.
In high school, I was the student CEO of WAVM, Maynard High School's TV/Radio station, one of the state of Massachusetts' top-rated AV programs. As CEO, I was in charge of the organization of live TV and radio shows, the broadcasting of countless community events, and overseeing the annual Beacon Santa Telethon, a 40 hour live television event that typically raises $30,000-$40,000 for needy families during the holiday season. I also teach Video Production at the STEM-focused summer camp called College Academy, where my 4-8th grade students learn how to film, produce, and edit their own video projects.
As an English major at Fordham University, good writing is obviously an important skill to have. However, its importance in any discipline cannot be understated. In every class I have taken, the ability to express one's ideas clearly through writing is one that is essential to possess. I scored a 34/36 on the ACT English section, a perfect 12/12 on the ACT English/Writing section, and a 5/5 on the AP Language and Composition Section, so feel free to contact me with any writing concerns you may have!
