Jennifer was awesome. She helped my 13 year old grandson not only get through his summer reading but also had him understand both books. She was patient and kind. Jennifer was very accommodating to our sessions as we had some difficult situations happen! I would recommend Jennifer to anyone who is looking for a dedicates, knowledgeable, patient, and kind tutor.
Search no more! Seriously!! My child has had one session with her thus far and I have never seen my child so excited to work on her math homework. She can't wait for her next session with Jennifer. My daughter has become so motivated to catch up with her class. Math has always been a weak subject for my daughter and she is currently in the below average category among her classmates in math. She was diagnosed with ADHD and her math homework has always been a struggle for the both of us. Since meeting with Jennifer, I feel completely confident in her tutoring skills. She has been very flexible and communicative from the very beginning. She truly cares about her students as individuals and has already proven to be supportive of my decisions regarding my child's academic goals. My daughter was so excited about all the new things she learned in just one session. I have seen such a huge change in my daughter's attitude towards her academics since meeting with Jennifer so I went ahead and increased my daughter's tutoring sessions to two per week. My little girl is SO excited - about math and working with Jennifer! Before meeting Jennifer, she was dreading a tutor. I can't even believe it. It's such a relief as a parent. I feel so hopeful now!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As part of being an educational consultant, I worked with clients to help plan their career goals, as well as help establish what education is needed to obtain these goals. I helped assist with resume & cover letter writing, job search techniques, and taught successful ways for these clients to appropriately and effectively interview by using public speaking and presentation skills. At the same time, I kept constant communication with potential hiring agencies and companies themselves.
For the past ten years I have consulted students on the whole college admissions process. I work with students on application completion, essay writing, short answer ideas, test preparation, and interviewing techniques. I also plan, with the students and families, a timeline for completion of all parts of the college admissions process.
Both privately and in a classroom setting, I have taught various high school placement tests courses, as well as independent school entrance exam classes to help students prepare for the secondary school admissions process. Within these courses, we review test format, I show the students what strategies to use for the different sections of the test, and ways to self check. These students also learn a great deal of study strategies within my classroom curriculum that help with successful achievement on these tests.
I have taught and tutored K-6 elementary students for the past 15 years. I have also been certified as a teacher for K-8 in both Virginia and Massachusetts. I was also a Grade 6 classroom teacher at a middle school as well as a Grade 6 class adviser.
I have taught and tutored Elementary math to elementary and middle school students for the past 15 years. I taught many levels of general math to different level learners. At the same time, I worked on may standards committees with both public and private schools, requiring aligning the math curriculum to adhere to state test preparation. Finally, I have spent a few years preparing students for the secondary school admissions process, such as prep work for the SSAT, HSPT, ISEE, and other state tests. This required work with basic math skills and word problem strategies.
I have taught and tutored Elementary science to both elementary and middle school students for the past 15 years. I taught general science, life science, physical science, biology, chemistry and more. At the same time, I worked on may standards committees with both public and private schools, requiring aligning the science curriculums to adhere to state test preparation. I have also spent years working with students preparing them for state tests, requiring completion of a science section, primarily focused on the scientific method process.
I taught life science for almost ten years. Part of my life science curriculum was the study of genetics and Darwin's Theory of Evolution. During my science classes, we studied all areas of genetics, from dominent/recessive genes to incomplete dominant situations.
I have taught Humanities to middle school students for the past 5 years. Part of the curriculum required implementing a daily grammar lesson, including all areas of grammar and punctuation. At the same time, as part of the whole writing process that I specialize in, it takes knowledge of basic grammar skills to be able to effectively write.
Both privately and in a classroom setting, I have taught Independent School Entrance Exam and Secondary School Admissions Test courses. Within the course, we review test format, strategies to use for the different sections of the test, and ways to self check. These students also learn a great deal of study strategies within my English classroom that also help towards successful achievement for these tests.
For the past five years, I have taught a structured study skills class to 6th through 8th grade students at the school I worked at. I showed students how to answer basic multiple choice questions, short answer and long essay style questions. I was also responsible for running an after school SSAT/ISEE course for students preparing for the secondary school admissions process.
