About Amy

My name is Amy and I graduated from my undergraduate schooling in 2015 with a bachelor of science in both education studies and developmental psychology. I have taught children, teens, and adults on the Autism Spectrum and children and teens who are not on the Autism Spectrum. Having found my passion for teaching at an extended school year camp during my sophomore year of high school, I have interned and then taught at that camp every year since.

I have found that elementary school grades are where I excel as a tutor, teacher, and helping professional.
With a passion for elementary school grades, I have immense interest in helping kids achieve their true potential. After all, these children are our future, and I want it to be a bright one for all involved.

I am able to think outside the box in order to explain to children how to do a math problem.

My reading comprehension skills are very high and I have a love for explaining things to others in order to help them understand.

I have mild Cerebral Palsy so I know what it is like to stand out and be different for something you cannot control. This equips me with a natural empathy for those around me and for those I teach.

I absolutely love helping people, that is what my purpose in life is. I would love to hear from anybody who would like a caring, patient, and considerate tutor with a love of education and learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with children with ADD/ADHD and behavioral special needs since 2008 as a CIT at an extended school year in my home town, and also studied special education classes at Wheelock College. I have now worked at this program for 4 years and am a special education aide for my hometown's public schools. I am able to adapt lesson plans, include all children in an integrated classroom, and understand behaviors. I am going for my masters in Applied Behavior Analysis this fall because I am so interested in and knowledgeable of behaviors related to ADD/ADHD.

Aspergers

I have taught kids with Aspergers for over 8 years now. I have learned to look for their triggers and behaviors that could make a lesson go poorly, as well as discovered their strengths individually as students. I have relevant coursework completed in undergrad from an Autism course that I took and received an A in after completing the course.

Autism

I have worked with children youth and adults with autism for over 8 years. As a teachers aide, a 1:1 and a counselor in training. I have studied autism in my undergraduate career and learned a lot in my field work placements in school as well as in my home town's extended school year for kids and teens with autism.
