I have never worked with a tutor who knew their material so well or was as organized as Margery. I contacted Margery to help me prepare for the BC Calculus exam while I was taking an AB Calculus class. With just a few months to prepare, this seemed like a daunting task; yet with Margery's clear instruction and guidance I was able to score a 5 on the exam. Using her mastery of the material, Margery is able to break down complex topics clearly and is excellent at communicating different mathematical concepts. She laid out a 3 month schedule, creating a timeline of calculus concepts to learn before the exam, and provided invaluable test-taking tips. I have worked with several different math tutors, but none could have prepared me as well as Margery did.

She also helped my sister achieve a near perfect score on the SAT II Math 2 exam!

My son has only one lesson with Margery but it appears to be off to a good start. She has taken inventory of his knowledge in the subject matter and thought through a course of action. In short, she's done all that can be done at this time.

Margery has been helping my 14 year old daughter review these past few summer weeks for her first year in high school. She has been so flexible to meet with us and is a pleasure to have over to our house.

After the first lesson, my somewhat anxious daughter said she loved her and definitely wanted to do more review with Margery. Margery worked quickly with my daughter to figure out where she stood with the math topics they worked on last year and what she will be delving into this coming year. She then focused with her on the areas she was least confident, building up her ability and confidence. She gave my daughter constant reassurance and praise for the work she did and gave her strategies and techniques to get through the problems she struggled with.

My daughter feels very confident NOW starting her freshman year but also is happy that Margery will be available for any supplemental help during the year. We are grateful we found Margery and would highly recommend her!

Margery is tutoring my two teenage children who are both math phobic. While they continue to find the subject matter challenging, they really enjoy working with Margery and appreciate the positive feedback and encouragement that she provides. She is a thoughtful and patient tutor who really knows how to connect with her students and is interested in their success.

Margery has tutored both of my high school children in geometry and algebra 2. I appreciate her approach because she explains the rationale behind the formulas. She is very patient and approachable. I also like that she has been able to tutor via Skype when meeting in person has not been possible because of busy after school schedules. I highly recommend Margery.

We initially contacted Margery based on her reviews on WyzAnt and her location being close to ours. One meeting was enough for us and our child to decide we didn't need to talk to anyone else. Margery is knowledgeable and experienced in several subjects which made her the perfect tutor for SSAT. She is also caring, patient and engaging and is able to make a good connection with her student. Our son was looking forward to his lessons and did his assignments with enthusiasm. It takes skill and experience to make a young student feel that way about tutoring sessions in the summer. Margery is a true professional and has all the skills and experience one would expect from a great tutor. She also gets results. Our son was able to accomplish his goal in SSAT. I strongly recommend her.

Although only a few sessions in, my nephew is learning so much. Margery assessed his needs quickly and set him up with a work plan and the tools to help him with his studies - particularly math. My nephew is so happy with his sessions and finds Margery very easy to work with. Through my conversations with her, I found that she is an excellent, experienced educator, who is sensitive to her students' needs. Finally, I really appreciate that Margery has taken the time to talk with me about her assessment and plans.

Margery is a wonderful tutor. My daughter has struggled with math and it has challenged her confidence. Margery is extremely warm and patient and has really built up my daughter's confidence and test scores. She is always prompt, professional, and easy to reach. Margery has a gift for tutoring kids and truly seems to enjoy her work.

Margery is an extremely knowledgeable teacher to be able to understand the students need and ensure the student understands the fundamentals thoroughly. She understands where the gaps are and what areas needs to be focused on to ensure the student thoroughly understands the subject. She is on time for the lessons, very professional and kind. She understands each student very well and does what it takes to build their confidence level to become successful and perform to their potential. She has been very flexible when we needed to change occasionally the lesson times once she has sufficient time to alter her schedule. I would highly recommend Margery.

My daughter had her first math tutoring session with Margery on Jan 24. Margery quickly identified her study tendencies and her strengths & weaknesses. She reviewed together with her on a recent math test set and explained the problems.

We shall arrange for new study sessions. Perhaps Tuesday afternoon would fit my daughter's schedules better. Margery- please let us know your availability! Thank you.

Margery has been working with my daughter for only a week and after three sessions, my daughter is already grasping the concepts that she didn't understand in AB Calc class this semester. She has gone way out of her way to accommodate her and has even been tutoring her via Skype while she has been away. My daughter is gaining confidence and absolutely loves working with Margery. I highly recommend Margery and feel so very fortunate that we found her!

Margery is simply terrific! She's very knowledgeable, professional and wonderfully patient. My son very much enjoys their laughter-filled tutoring sessions and appreciates that she continuously challenges him. I highly recommend Margery.

Margery is clearly a very experienced and effective tutor, but what stood out to me was also the flexibility that she has shown in the scheduling of the lessons for my 9th grader. We had a couple of changes of dates, and I had not received an email that Margery sent me to confirm the next appointment. When we finally spoke over the phone, she was extremely understanding, and my son was able to get his badly needed lesson on another date!

I have never met a tutor who is as caring as Ms. W. She not only teaches my son pre-Cal but also teaches him learning skills. My son is struggling with pre-Cal, algebra and math in general. Ms. W. observed my son's learning style, and communicated with me with compassion and solid suggestions. Remarkably, with Ms. W.'s lessons and previews, my son is able to be ahead of class and understand the complex concepts taught by his teacher at first time.

Margery was wonderful to work with, easy to schedule with, and very organized. She was a tremendous help to my son in reaching his ambitious summer math study goals.

We found Margery to help my daughter prep for the English and Math SAT. We were able to have three lessons with Margery prior to the test and she worked well with my daughter and we saw my daughter's motivation and willingness to practice go up after each lesson. Margery was also able to offer some feedback on their progress to me which was appreciated. Based on that, we agreed that my daughter should plan on taking the SAT a second time and for her focus on improvement on her algebra skills prior to that. We will definitely ask to Margery to come back and help her prepare for that in due course. In the mean time we feel she is well prepared for the SAT next week. Thank you Margery!

"Wow! Who's the tutor you are using?" asked our son's pre-calculus teacher upon seeing his grade turnaround. Mrs. W knows truly knows how to teach. This is evidenced in her patience, her command of the subject matter and most importantly, her ability to convey the subject matter in a manner that is understandable and relatable. As a result of her tutoring, our son now has greater confidence and the understanding to grasp the subject matter. Our son, his teacher and we, as his parents, have been thrilled with the progress he as made. We wholeheartedly endorse Mrs. W's skills and abilities as a tutor who helps students learn, grasp and grow.

Our son was not doing well in math and we could see that he was feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. He is a very hard worker, but does have some learning deficits. Margery began tutoring our son and within 2 weeks his grade was brought up. His last two test grades were a A and B. Along with her excellent educational experience, Margery has a keen ability to pinpoint the type of learner our son is. She gets our son!!! Margery has given him the tools to succeed in Algebra and we would highly recommend her. We are so delighted that we have found her!!!

I contacted Margery in order to help my 16 year old son who is completing high school through an accredited, online high school, with his AP Calculus AB class. He is a very bright math student, wanting to learn everything himself, but was struggling with some Calculus concepts. He agreed to meet with a tutor, and through Wyzant, I found Margery who seemed to have all of the necessary qualifications, at least online. Well, she exceeded both of our expectations, especially with regard to my son! She arrived promptly, and had already looked over the chapters in his book which he had covered (I had told her on the phone which book he used), and had taken it upon herself to contact his school to try and get information about his course. She immediately jumped into the section he was working on, and seemed to intrinsically know the best way to work with my son. She was extremely respectful of his intelligence, and explained the concepts he didn't understand in such a way he was able to understand almost immediately. She has a great sense of humor, and taught my son many useful calculus techniques in only an hour. Not only that, as his school doesn't offer AP Calculus BC, she offered to help him with that portion in order for him to take the AP Calculus BC exam rather than the AB. Needless to say, we have made the decision to use Margery on a regular basis, especially as Calculus can be a rather daunting class to teach oneself and she made it an enjoyable learning experience for my son.

If you are looking for a REAL math teacher, one who clearly has tons of experience, Ms. W is a perfect fit. I have been struggling with Pre-Calculus, and her clear and patient explanations helped demystify this tough subject. She even prepared before the first lesson, having numerous calculator programs, a textbook and exercises. With Ms. W as a tutor, one should feel a lot more confident about math!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been a high school Math teacher for the past 17 years and have tutored a number of students in preparation for the ACT, SAT, SSAT & GRE exams.

I generally use the AP Collegeboard test prep books. I start by having a student take a practice test and analyze their areas of weakness in terms of knowledge and test taking ability. Based on this I then prepare specific lessons designed to strengthen knowledge and skills. I also continue to give practice timed tests. As the exam approaches I design an individualized test taking strategy based on each student's strengths.

As a high school teacher I have taught many, many students with ADD/ADHD throughout the past 16 years. I also raised 3 children and both of my boys have ADHD. As a requirement of teaching I have taken many workshops and courses as well.

I am a Massachusetts licensed high school Math & Computer Science teacher. I have taught all high school math subjects for the past 16+ years and have tutored many students as well.

Algebra is the first math subject that requires students to think abstractly. It is the key to all high school math courses and essential for students to thoroughly grasp. Many students take this course in 8th grade but need extra practice in order to retain their skills. In most math courses that I teach I frequently need to reteach Algebra concepts before students can move forward in their current math course.

Algebra II is an extension of Algebra I and prepares students for PreCalculus. Many students struggle with this course because they have either not seen Algebra in over a year while studying Geometry or because they struggled with Algebra 1. The topics in Algebra II seem unrelated and I work with students to see the connections between all the different Algebra topics as well as how they relate to real world problems.

As a high school teacher I have taught many, many students with Autism/Aspergers throughout the past 16 years. Technically in the DSM, Aspergers is now considered Autism and is no longer a separate diagnoses.

In high school, all of our classes have inclusion and I have worked with these students with and without aids. I have also taken many courses and workshops about autism to better improve my teaching.

I am a Massachusetts licensed high school Math & Computer Science teacher.

I have taught AP Calculus for 17 years (both AB & BC). In addition I have been an AP Calculus Reader and therefore know exactly the concepts required by the AP Collegeboard and how the tests are scored.

In addition I have tutored a number of college students taking Calculus I and Calculus II. Most of my college students are either Engineering majors.

I have a minor degree in Computer Science and was a Senior Software Engineer for 10 years before I went into teaching. I have also taught Computer Science (non-AP and AP) for 15+ years. I have been a Computer Science Club advisor and a FiRST Robotics Advisor. I hope this will suffice!

As a high school math teacher for the past 15+ yearsI have taught all levels of high school math including Discrete Math. It is a part of our high school curriculum and all math teachers are required to be able to teach all courses and all levels of high school math.

I have taught all high school math subjects for the past 16+ years and have tutored many students as well.

In addition, I have tutored a number of students in elementary, middle and high school in all levels of math. I have worked as a volunteer in my children's elementary school with students who struggle with math concepts.

I have used a number of different Geometry textbooks supplied by the schools (mostly McDougal Littell). Students tend to struggle most with Proofs. I start students with a non-math proof. For example, write a proof that you are aged 15 etc. I work with students to learn theorems, postulates, definitions and properties and how to use them in a proof. In addition I work with students in the study of polygons, area and volume.

I have tutored many students preparing for the GRE's. I took the GRE exam myself and scored 800 on the math section and 740 verbal. I work with students in the three areas that the GRE test: quantitative, verbal and writing. I give students practice tests and analyze their areas of weakness as well as their test taking practices. I then prepare lessons to improve their knowledge and test taking strategies. I continue to provided timed practice tests to assess progress. As the exam approaches I work with each student to plan their specific test strategy.

Before I became a high school teacher I was a Software Engineer with Digital Equipment Corporation for over 10 years. In my job I used many computer languages (COBOL, FORTRAN, ASSEMBLER, C, C++, Pascal, Lisp and Java). Java is distinct as it is an object-oriented language and currently the language used on the AP Computer Science test.

I start students with an introduction to basic Java syntax followed by data structures (primitive, arrays, lists and classes). Next we work on controlling the flow of the program through the use of loops and methods. Then we discuss searching and sorting algorithms and learn how to analyze them for efficiency.

If a student is taking AP Computer Science I teach them the current Case Study and have students work through problems that modify the case study.

Precalculus is a hodgepodge of seemingly unrelated topics required to learn Calculus including a polynomials, parametric, polar and vector equations, conic sections, exponents, logarithms, probability and a good amount of trigonometry. I try to connect all these topics for my students and foreshadow how they will be useful in Calculus. I show how each different function is used to model real world data and how the mathematical model is used to make predictions. By making connections and relating math to real examples my students are excited to learn the material.

I absolutely love Probability! I start by having students try to predict the probability that two of them in my classroom have the same birthday (in classes > 23 students) or lead a discussion about weather forecasting. Students are instantly engaged. I then teach them the basic principle of probability (# of favorable outcomes/ # of total outcomes). Next we work on Counting principles (nCr and nPr) followed by probability problems increasing in level of difficulty. I cover random variables and probability distributions.

For fun we talk about gambling odds and the probability of winning the lottery.

I have tutored many students preparing for the SAT's. I work with students in the three areas that the SAT tests: quantitative, verbal and writing. I give students practice tests and analyze their areas of weakness as well as their test taking practices. I then prepare lessons to improve their knowledge and test taking strategies. I continue to provided timed practice tests to assess progress. As the exam approaches I work with each student to plan their specific test strategy.

As a high school teacher I have taught many, many students with special needs throughout the past 16 years. I have worked with students diagnosed with the following: Aspergers, Autism, ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Executive Functioning Disorder, Cognitive Function Disorder (from Concussions), Vision and Hearing Impairment, ESL (English as a Second Language), chronic migraines, color blindness and many more.

In high school, all of our classes have inclusion and I have worked with all of these students with and without aides. I have also taken many courses and workshops about special needs to better improve my teaching.

I was a member of the Varsity Swim Team throughout high school and college. I have coached and taught swimming lessons (all levels) for 30+ years). I have coached high school swimming and have taught Red Cross WSI and Lifeguard Training for many, many years.

Trigonometry is one of my favorite math subjects to teach! I show my students how the ratios of a right triangle (sine, cosine, tangent etc) allow us to solve real world problems such as the height of Mt. Everest, distance between the planets, or in the study of sound and light. I work from the unit circle and explain the importance of radian measure. I continue onto graphing transformations of trig functions and their inverses, solving trig equations and the use of trig in real world problems. I teach my students how to prove trig identities and why this is a valuable skill.

In addition I love to incorporate the history of Geometry, thousands of years old, long before calculators and computers.
