I have a master's degree in Education with a specialization in English as a Second Language (ESL). I have been a teacher for eight years, most of which has been for adult students in college preparatory programs. I have taught courses at MCPHS and Northeastern University and was invited to join the team at CELOP at Boston University. I designed and taught university preparation programs at the YMCA International Learning Center and EC Boston. After completing the program at the YMCA, many of my students have enrolled at BHCC. Others have gotten into Suffolk University, Northeastern University, MCPHS, Endicott, or even hired by MIT. Many have passed directly into non-ESL classes. Others have reported back that they have received high praise from their ESL instructors for being well prepared; one was even moved up quickly after starting an ESL course and receiving a recommendation from the professor.

I strive to have student-centered lessons that are as real-world and applicable as possible. I like to include role-playing, simulations, and technology. I increase student engagement and retention by getting out into the community whenever possible. I teach critical thinking and study skills and challenge my students. I enjoy getting to know students and helping them use English for situations ranging from helping another student in the computer lab (what are the phrases and vocabulary needed to ask for and give help and how can you stay in English when you start to panic with a computer problem) to respectfully being assertive at a part-time job, during class discussions, or when interacting with an instructor. I hope my students feel encouraged, supported, pushed, and respected. I hope they feel that the lessons are relevant and interactive and have fun while they learn. I have helped students prepare for the TOEFL, IELTS, GED, and Accuplacer exams. More importantly, I help students be prepared to handle college-level work so that they can succeed in their programs after they have been admitted and
