Thanks to Julia's work and clever advices, especially with the Speaking section of the TOEFL, my scores have been much better than I expected. Her tutoring has been focused in practical skills of the test. So, I didn't feel I was taking the test for the first time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ESL is my specialty as a teacher. I have experience in large and small classes of students from all over the world. I help my students improve their fluency by working on grammar, vocabulary, reading and speaking skills. My students also have fun!
After teaching for a year in Spain I have become an expert on this examination. This exam is very popular in Great Britain and therefore I was frequently asked about preparation methods while in Europe. My method of teaching this test is to familiarize students with the test as much as possible and to break down each section so that they are comfortable with all aspects of the test. The writing portion of this exam is especially challenging for students so I have many exercises to practice this section.
I worked as a literacy tutor in an after school program for 2 years during college. I worked with children ranging from ages 4-13. Many of my students developed a love for reading while working with me.
I have studied Spanish for 16 years and I spent one year abroad in Ecuador at a private university. I can teach beginner and low-intermediate levels.
TOEFL is my favorite challenge. I am currently employed as a TOEFL instructor in a language school in Boston. I use specific test strategies to prepare English students of all levels for this difficult exam.
