About Genevieve

I am a music teacher with 15 years of experience teaching flute, recorder, music theory, music history, ear training and music literature. I have contributed to the creation of music curriculums in one of the most renowned music schools in Montreal as well as being the author of a series of published music theory and music literature exercise books. I am also an active performer on the Boston classical music scene. I teach students of all ages and levels of proficiency. Lesson style is adapted to the goals of the student.

As a native French Canadian French speaker, I have also taught French as a second language in a college setting and have tutored French as a first language to high school students in Canada.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University as well over 15 years of experience teaching ear training (solfège and dictation) in the French ear training system. I have taught beginner's to college level ear training to students aged 5 to 20 years.

Flute

I have a Master of Music in flute performance from Université de Montréal and over 15 years of experience teaching flute and recorder to students age 5 to adult. I have taught beginner to advanced level students in schools and private studios in Canada and the United States.

French

I am a native French speaker entirely educated in French until the end of my undergraduate degree. I completed all levels of French as a first language at the high school and graduate levels. I have also taught French as a second language at the Cordon Bleu culinary school in Camdridge, MA for a year. I have been tutoring French as a first and as a second language since 1997.

Music History

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and am the author of a series of music history books with listening guides for beginner to intermediate-level music students. I have over 15 years of experience teaching music history, theory and ear training to students ranging from beginner to college levels. I currently teach a history of western music survey class at Berklee College of Music.

Music Theory

I hold a DMA in orchestral conducting and have been teaching music theory since 2001. I'm the author of a series of published music theory exercise books for students.

Sight Singing

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with all relevant ear training and sight-singing formation, as well as over 15 years of experience teaching sight singing to students aged 5 to 20. I have taught beginner to college level sight singing in schools and private studios in the United States and Canada.
