I am a responsible and educated young adult with a talent for teaching. I look forward to listening to you, solving problems, being patient, working hard, and having fun. I am currently a math and chemistry teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School. I have experience tutoring all types of math, chemistry, physics, and test preparation.
I have a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from The University of Massachusetts Amherst (2010). When I first graduated, I was a high school geometry teacher for two months. I spent a lot of time after school and during class working one on one with students who needed extra help. I always tried to pay attention and be encouraging. I did not plan on making a career of teaching but I really enjoyed it and I actually missed it after.
In the Fall of 2012 I decided to teach abroad. While in Thailand, I taught math in English to a group of students from a very different culture who were not native English speakers. Though challenging in the beginning this was a very valuable experience for me as it taught me a lot of patience and also taught me to teach in a variety of ways. Prior to this experience I had always relied on teaching verbally (which I still think is a strength of mine), but due to the language barrier I had to adapt and learn to teach through other methods, especially patterns and images. I really had to think a lot about how to make the concepts extra clear. I think this experience will allow me to help a variety of students with different styles of learning now that I am home in the United States. Also, the school that I worked for gave me very little instruction or guidance. I was forced to come up with my own curriculum and books. I learned a lot about creating materials and through my time there I became a better lesson planner.
Since coming back home I have been teaching high school math and chemistry. Through teaching math and science I have gotten a better sense of how the two subjects depend on each other and through giving extra help every day after school I have gotten an even better sense of the most common types of problems students have in both subjects.
I love tutoring and I know I won't disappoint you!
I look forward to meeting you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
