In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For almost 15 years, I have held MA Elementary Certification (1-6) and, during that time period, I have taught multiple subjects in a public school setting that include Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts. In my current role, I teach a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) curriculum to academically advanced students in Grades 5-8.
In addition to being certified in Middle School Mathematics, I have five years' experience teaching Grade 5 Math and significant experience in tutoring Math students in an afterschool program. I currently teach a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Special to grades 5-8 in a public school.
