University of Massachusetts (Chemical Engineering)
I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, majoring in chemical engineering. My passion and enthusiasm for tutoring comes from my desire to have positive impact on students; enabling them become well academically and discovering their potential. I derive great satisfaction when I am able to help students reach their target grades and improve their determination and confidence on certain subjects. Being part of an Honor's society in college and having my name on the Dean's list every semester makes me understand that hard work pays off.
I have been a college tutor for three years where I tutored students in Chemistry and Calculus; being able to help students of science related background in gaining proficiency is very interesting for me and a fulfilling one when it happens. I take delight in discovering methods to assist students in achieving their goals. My passion at my university was to study all aspects chemistry (such as general chemistry I& II and organic chemistry I and II). My zeal for the field enabled me to excel and acquire knowledge at a faster rate compared to other subjects. I have had experience tutoring students at middle school. Having worked as a private tutor I can say that via helping student with academic challenges, the students are mostly always able to reveal a new strategy of looking at a problem or a new perspective on a solution. I tutor students in Algebra, Science, Chemistry, Life Science and Math. Basically, I help students with homework and having full understanding/ studying ahead of the material learnt in class. Apart from tutoring on campus in college, I am part of a research team which involves utilizing thermodynamic nano particle size effects for low temperature lead-free solder. This work broadens and increases my level of thinking, which enables me to be more effective and productive while tutoring. Tutoring enables me to continue using the skills and knowledge I spent many years acquiring, and also in developing interpersonal skills. I am actively involved in extracurricular activities on campus. I am also a resident adviser; this position gives me the opportunity of helping students adjust to college by teaching them study skills, providing campus tours, and navigating orientation programs. I have also counseled students regarding their applications to assist them in coming up with strong applications to the schools of their choice.
I am available every day from 8:30 am-10:00 pm. I would prefer tutoring students at public places such as libraries; you can definitely contact me for more information; I look forward to assisting in achieving your desired goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
