When I began the college application process during my Sophomore & Junior years of high school, I was daunted by the thought of a standardized test. While my grades were excellent and my extracurriculars plentiful, my first pass at the SAT proved disappointing. And this came as no huge surprise: I have never excelled at test-taking. I worried that my SAT score would detract from the overall quality of my application.

In response, I spent a full year practicing in earnest: I took dozens of practice tests, analyzed patterns, and identified strategies. The work paid off. At my second attempt, I managed to improve my score by nearly 300 points and land in the 98th percentile. I firmly believe that my SAT score proved pivotal in my ultimate acceptance to my dream school: the University of Pennsylvania (from which I graduated in 2014 with degrees in biology and English).

I firmly believe that my test-taking struggles actually prove beneficial to being a tutor, for I've found that the vast majority of students can relate to my experience. In other words, most students are not naturally good at standardized tests, but I also know from experience that this IS a surmountable obstacle. Ever since I began tutoring three years ago, I have worked with students to transform the test from a weakness into a strength--a task that I have found immensely enjoyable and rewarding.

Baseball

I was first introduced to baseball when I was 5 years old and I have loved (and played) the sport ever since. I played little-league and Babe Ruth for as long as I could, but I also started on my varsity high school team as a freshman. I was named MVP my senior year and an All-Star in the Eastern Independent League. While my baseball playing days are largely over, I play in recreational softball leagues during the summer and fall.

Knowledgeable and thorough

Shell came to tutor my son for SAT Reading, writing and essay. Shell was able to identify my son's mistakes and is in the process of correcting him. My son felt very comfortable and felt he is going to improve. Looking forward to see my son improve his score so that he can go to his dream college. Highly recommend him.

Expert at translating problem solving strategies into suitable language for his students

Shell has been working with my daughter for a few weeks and I have been very impresses. Approachable and good style, very smart, and most critically - he translates the math strategy in his brain into something my teen understands and grabs hold of.
