About Avery

Hello and thank you for your interest! I'm a licensed Chemistry teacher with three years of hands-on lab experience, and two years of commercial antibody product development, characterization, and quality control. I'm highly knowledgeable in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, and Mathematics. My mother is a career AP Chemistry teacher at Lexington High School, with an infinite amount of material that I can provide for our sessions. I am patient, charismatic, and great at breaking problems down into easily comprehensible parts through the use of analogies. I pledge to work with your child and develop a unique, tailored strategy to improve their performance and grades. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have outstanding math test results on my GRE's, and have completed college level mathematics courses in differential equations, multivariable calculus, quantitative analysis, as well as graduate level advanced thermodynamics, advanced quantum mechanics, and polymer engineering.

I minored in biochemistry and majored in chemistry in college, and spent three years performing organic and inorganic synthesis during my time at Umass Amherst. In addition to this, during my junior year, I won a Massachusetts Life Science Competition grant to conduct my own original research in the field of antibody bioconjugation, to develop Enzymatically-Linked immunosorbant assay's. After graduation, I worked at the bioprocessing plant at Umass Lowell for half a year, before taking a position at Bioss Antibodies, where I rose the the position of Senior Product Specialist. I just received my teaching license for the state of Massachusetts, and am licensed to teach chemistry to grades 5-12.

My strength is in my patience and unique way of explaining difficult to understand topics. I understand that every person is wired differently, and that there is no all-encompassing technique to teaching. I will work with you, and your child to find the best way to approach learning for them, and will never give up. Thank you for your time!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I hold a B.S. in Chemistry from Umass Amherst, and have completed coursework through quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, differential equations, multivariable calculus, quantitative analysis, statistical analysis, and instrumental analysis, among others.

Algebra 2

I hold a B.S. in Chemistry from Umass Amherst, and have completed courses in advanced mathematics courses such as calculus 1, 2, multivariable calculus, differential equations, statistical analysis, quantitative analysis, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and instrumental analysis, including lab components for the latter five.

Biology

I hold a B.S. in Chemistry from Umass Amherst, with a minor in Biology (I was 1 lab course away from completing a double major) and scored a 5 on my AP biology test, so I have taken college biology twice - once in high school, and then once again for my major. I am passionate about biology, and translate that into a passion for teaching.

Chemistry

B.S. in Chemistry from Umass Amherst (Minor in Biochemistry) GPA: 3.2

Some completed coursework includes: Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Thermodynamics, Inorganic Chemistry, Advanced Biochemistry, Polymer Engineering, Quantitative Analysis, Advanced Organic Chemistry I & II, Inorganic Chemistry, and many others.
