In terms of academic background, I just graduated from Wellesley College in May 2017 with a Computer Science major. Before that I attended Lexington High School, and my SAT score back in high school was 2340. My tutoring background began in my junior year of high school, when I started tutoring English as a second language for elementary and middle school students. In college, I branched out to also tutor the SAT, SSAT/ PSAT, middle and high school math, and the college application process.
I mostly tutor at Cary Memorial Library or Starbucks in Lexington, and currently have a lot of evening and weekend availability. Just get in touch and we'll work something out! The lesson was very helpful. Lizzie was able to plan out many weeks ahead of time and lay out a schedule for me to follow. As well, healthy amounts of homework was assigned, all of which I am able to do within the tutoring sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a current sophomore at Wellesley College; in my freshman year at Wellesley, I worked with the nonprofit Let's Get Ready to coach first-generation, low-income students through the college process. From that experience, I learned how to tailor students' applications to bring out their strengths. I am confident that I can help students through everything from choosing which extracurricular activities to include in their Common App, to editing a personal statement, to simply understanding the application and financial aid process.
As an ESL and SAT tutor, I often find myself helping students with organization and study skills. From setting up a binder to working through flash cards efficiently to making personalized study guides, I know that I can teach students the skills they need to ace tests and avoid stress. In my own studies as a Psychology major at Wellesley College, I have seen how crucial organization, scheduling, and planning are to success. I am confident that I can personalize my own study methods for students while also helping them find their own unique study tools.
