It is my goal as your tutor to help you find your best learning style and to help you gain the confidence and the ability to succeed in school and, above all, to be happy to learn new things. After all, everyone learns differently. Your learning difficulties will be resolved as I help you become a creative thinker and problem solver. We will focus on much more than rote learning and recalling facts. You will learn from your mistakes and give yourself a chance to fix them.
I have been a classroom teacher for 30 years in grades K-5, primarily as a language arts teacher and visual arts specialist. I have also tutored individual students and small groups after school hours. I have a current teaching license and hold a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University.
For decades, I have promoted literacy reading and writing skills through the arts and integrated learning. As a teacher, I prefer a hands-on approach focusing on demonstrating skills and concepts as they are learned. I have used a variety of modalities and have worked with many types of children: those with learning disabilities; those who require additional reinforcement in order to learn and to organize their thoughts; and children who are English Language Learners. All children have unique learning styles and, as a result, deserve unique and creative support.
I have recently retired from teaching full-time but still work part-time in a public school in order to keep up to date with current standards and best practices in teaching reading and writing. I look forward to working with you. Please feel free to communicate any questions you may have.

My daughter and son have been under Tamar's guidance now for over a year. Their reading skills are improving. Both read independently. Ms. Tamar is always on time and always patient with them.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an arts specialist/language arts and poetry teacher for more than three decades and have arrived at the conclusion that for children in grades K-6 all subjects can and should be integrated and respectively drawn from. That is how I approached my teaching with hundreds of children with a multitude of needs and differences. All children have unique learning styles and thus should be approached with unique plans to learning. The best setting for this was the art room and secondly I relished the opportunity to work with small groups and individuals in order to achieve the most desired progress. I look forward to working with your child and to help them develop their own love for learning.
