Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have my Masters in Education (regular and special education) and my undergraduate degree in Psychology. Over the past 20 years I have taught in a variety of different school settings. I have had the opportunity to work with some exceptional people in schools who specialize in supporting children with ADD and ADHD. I understand how to work with and appreciate children who have ADD/ADHD.
I have taught and supported many students who have various degrees of ADD/ADHD and understand that each child is completely different and needs a different approach. I know that medication is not the answer for every situation. There is not a one size fits all when working with kids who have ADD/ADHD.

Dyslexia

I have been teaching/tutoring for over 20 years and have had a great deal of success working with non - readers, struggling readers and children with dyslexia. Watching them grow and become confident readers is extremely rewarding. I am certified in the Wilson Reading Program and am a Certified Dyslexic Practitioner. I love being able to help a child realize that they can read and to watch their frustrations fade away :).

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my Masters in Education (regular and special education) and I have my Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology. I have taught for over 20 years and have worked in a variety of educational settings. I enjoy working with elementary aged students and helping them to build their confidence. School can be a difficult and frustrating place for some children - sometimes we need another person in our corner.

Phonics

I have my Master in Education and have been teaching for over 20 years. In addition I am certified in the Wilson Reading System and have been teaching the program for over 20 years. I have had a great deal of success teaching phonics. I am also a Certified Dyslexic Practitioner through the International Dyslexia Association.
