I love teaching. I have fond memories of my former teachers whose tailored teaching methods allowed me to understand that which I once thought was insurmountable. In 6th grade, I was partnered up with a weekly reading buddy. I absolutely loved helping her through the learning process. Reading is a tough skill to master, but it's a very important one. It gave me such happiness to know that I had helped her thrive and progress. From there, I started working with my two young cousins. They learned in different ways and at different paces, which required me to think creatively to keep them both interested. Both of them have blossomed, not just as kids, but as learners. Now, I mostly help them with their homework. For them, it's helpful to simply have someone to help them budget their time. No matter what the particular need, I am eager to find solutions.
Throughout middle school and high school I saw significant improvements in my own writing skills. My peers often asked for my help, whether that meant proofreading a final draft or brainstorming topics alongside them. I never did the work for them; I thought of myself as more of a facilitator. I love seeing people grow as learners and writers. We all have different goals. Whether you aim to understand how to detect run on sentences or craft a strong thesis statement, I can help. I have a wealth of experience writing history papers, literature essays, and literary criticisms. Additionally, I am well-versed in narrative and creative writing.
I am a Harvard bound high school senior who has maintained a 4.2 GPA, the highest possible, throughout my high school career. I play on two varsity sports teams and captain one. I have received my school's "Faculty Prize" twice, and the "Founder's Prize" once. I credit these accomplishments to the phenomenal teachers and mentors that I am so lucky to have in my life.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am quite experienced in tutoring elementary aged children. I have tutored students as young as 3 to as old as 17. I have helped my younger students learn to read and write. I have worked with older students to identify effective study strategies, complete their homework and projects, and strengthen skills and confidence. Part of my role as a tutor is to identify what exactly makes each student "tick." What is their style of learning: visual, auditory, read-write, kinesthetic, or a combination? I am fascinated by cognitive development, and I use this knowledge to tailor my lessons. Cognitive psychologists theorize that children actively construct their own meaning around prior knowledge, that they are not passive learners. Additionally, an appropriate level of challenge stimulates brain development, as does social interaction. Lastly, without excitement, learning becomes a chore instead of a joy. I am an enthusiastic and experience tutor whose goal it is to make learning fun, efficient, and effective.
I have helped multiple students achieve success through simply altering their methods of studying. As a current student myself, I am always trying new strategies and keeping up to date with relevant literature. For instance, the average working memory can only hold 5-9 new pieces of information at once. This understanding of how the human brain works allows me to meet my clients where they are. With each student, it is important to identify where they are having trouble, and to try out different methods and strategies to give them new tools. Not all students learn the same way, and this is something that I completely understand. My high grades and recent acceptance to Harvard are proof that good study skills can go a long way, regardless of one's level of initial understanding.
