About Mike

I'm an Organic Chemist working in the chemical industry, five years of teaching and tutoring experience as a graduate student in Vermont. I completed my Ph.D. in 2013 and had several publications resulting from this work. Following this work, I was a postdoc at Northeastern University where I did drug discovery. I am very good at helping students achieve independent learning of the subject early on. I am available Monday-Thursday in the evenings 7-9 around Natick/Framingham area.

I have several years experience as a chemistry tutor while in graduate school. I have a passion for the subject and I am very good at instilling this passion in students to help them achieve independent success. I am very well versed in sophomore organic and have a talent for helping others in the area. When I work with students, I try to encourage them to work as a team and use dry erase boards to problem solve. I have had several tutoring sessions involving small groups using this technique to encourage thinking out loud. I have an abundance of text books and material with which to draw practice problems and examples from and would be happy to share with those whom I'm tutoring.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Organic Chemistry

I have several years' experience as an organic chemistry tutor during my graduate studies at the University of Vermont, and absolutely love the subject. I am now a full time chemist at a local company in the Natick area and have student loans and free time. Mechanistic problem solving, NMR interpretation and general reactions are things I deal with daily.
