University of Michigan (Economics and Environmental Science)
My name is Josh B., and I graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan. I graduated in three years with degrees in economics as well as environmental science. After graduating I worked briefly for an environmental consulting firm in Ann Arbor, MI, before moving back home to Boston.
I am a math and economics tutor who has been working in the tutoring field for a number of years. I tutor all ages and grades, from middle school up to college. I work with students struggling in class, and have had great success with my pupils in helping increase their grades. I also work on studying and preparing for standardized tests including ISEE, PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc. My fee is between $40-$80 dollars per hour, depending on the subject, but I am also potentially willing to negotiate if it is necessary. My first goal is to help the students out! I'd be happy to send along a resume and phone number to anyone that is interested and we can talk more about the specifics.
I'd be happy to give anyone a list of references from satisfied parents and students. I am a kind young man who is calm and fun to learn with. I work very well with children and choose a patient but effective approach when teaching others. I choose a relaxed and fun environment to help ease the tension of doing the work that is hard.
I look forward to continuing my tutoring experience this school year, and I hope to help as many children and young adults as I can! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've played baseball from little league up through high school and was even recruited to play in college but chose not to. I am an avid baseball fan as well and learn a lot from watching and playing.
I played basketball from the age of 8 up through college. I played a great amount of pickup games and intramural games at the University of Michigan (some against players on the university's football and basketball teams). I also played for my university team when I studied abroad in London. I tried out for their university team and made it. I played until a severe ankle injury stopped me but will hopefully be able to play again soon as I am recovering from surgery.
As a former student of Boston Latin School in Boston, MA (class of 2008) I was required to take the ISEE in order to gain access into the school. At the time I did extremely well on the exam, and since graduating college from the University of Michigan (class of 2011) and beginning tutoring I have already worked with students to prepare for the ISEE test this coming year. I have worked in conjunction with an ISEE test prep book and have found great success using that.
