In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an Instructor, one of the courses that I taught every year was 'Child and Adolescent Development and Psychopathology'. There was a strong focus given to current research and science concerning Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This involved assessment and management of this still controversial diagnosis.
Some common techniques included classroom management, reading and study skills, and personalized learning techniques. The most contentious debates were concerning the dilemma of medicating a sometimes very young student.

In the course of my studying and teaching at several institutions of higher learning, I have had to do many writing assignments, including those required for two Master's degrees (Social Welfare and Clinical Psychology), and for a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I have done multiple trainings and workshops, which required a great deal of writing, mostly in the preparation stages.
