Hello, my name is Andi and I am a researcher and professor at at Wellesley College. Before moving to Massachusetts, I graduated with my Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. I received my B.A. in Psychology and Women's and Gender Studies as well as my M.A. in Women's and Gender Studies from DePaul University in Chicago, where I am originally from. I have spent the last six years teaching and tutoring high school and college level students in Chicago, Austin, and Boston in topics such as American Studies, Asian American History, Feminist Studies, Ethnic Studies, reading comprehension, analytical writing, and proofreading.
Not only do I have extensive training and experience in teaching, but helping students improve their grades, strengthen their academic skills, and build confidence is truly my passion. My experience in working with students of various backgrounds has made me a well-rounded educator who is able to build meaningful connections with those I teach so that they may feel listened to and supported in and out of the classroom. I approach teaching and tutoring as a form of mentorship in which I do not simply tell students what to write, think, or say. Rather, I allow students to set their own goals and then implement activities and design interactive lesson plans so that students are able to learn at their own pace and feel accomplished.
My training as an interdisciplinary scholar comes from my educational and professional experience in both the humanities and social sciences. Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, and some Geography are key fields the Social Sciences that I have engaged with extensively in my research on race, gender, migration, and history in the United States. My research training is deeply rooted in ethnography and working closely with communities that I study, which are core methodologies and pedagogies of anthropologists and other social scientists. Therefore, not only am I able to teach material written by Anthropologists, but my hands-on experienc
