I teach students to learn by incorporating research based learning strategies and college career readiness skills that build learning confidence. My philosophy is to go beyond the content area and teach students to learn effectively by developing note-taking skills, reading strategies, time management skills, 5-10-5 content review habits, study skill building, and relationship skills to become independent and resourceful learners. I have taught middle school and high school students in Boston and the South Shore and love to see them learn. I spend my summers racing sailboats and am a Committee Member for a Junior Sailing Program where I wrote the instructional curricula. Remember, every student has the power to be successful. You just need the right tools and you, too, will be on your way!!

Math makes the world go 'round! I bring math to life in your own world so that it doesn't exist on a page in a book. I integrate the concept of flipped tutoring. What is that? Most teachers and tutors give you a quick lesson and then have you produce problems. With flipped tutoring, I want you to have the opportunity to maximize our time together. You will watch a 5-10 minute video covering the concepts that we will learn together so that you come to tutoring with ideas and questions that we will work through together. Math is also about taking baby steps. It is important that students master each step along the way using easy and quick techniques that you can remember. With that confidence, you can "attack" math with strength. Throughout my career, I have unlocked the mystery of Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry for many students using these and many other research based approaches. Remember, Math is fun!

Have you ever heard a student say, "I hate to read?" There are many more out there than you think. But, being a strong reader is the key to academic success. I incorporate pre-reading, reading for a purpose, and note taking strategies that teach students to enjoy reading. Engagement is the key. By keeping a student focused on reading and by engaging the in the process of reading, they improve comprehension. Writing is a learned process that every student can master. I implement proven template strategies, from brainstorming, outlining, editing, revising to publishing. You will become an organized and thoughtful writer whether writing creatively, rhetorically or persuasively. Once you have identified the structure of a five paragraph essay, you will be able to apply those same structural components to five page paper. I can provide additional support to students looking to master research skills and APA guidelines.

Take the first step to stay on target and to make learning fun. Build your confidence in Math, Reading and/or Writing and learn tricks of the trade to help you work smarter not harder. With my proven learning strategies, you will become a better student by structuring your study time, taking better notes in class and while you read, becoming a more efficient reader, reviewing notes using 5-10-5, becoming more confident and attacking math problems with certainty, by leaving more time for you for extracurricular activities. Remember, if you believe it, you can achieve it!
