About Mark

I have been a practicing engineer for over 30 years. I enjoy working with young people and helping them succeed. During my time in college, I tutored many students in technical aspects of engineering where algebra, trigonometry and calculus are put to real world use. My experience working in government and private industry is something I want to share with young students trying to make it through college.

I have personally seen the public school system through my children and find there is often something vital left out of math lessons that will provide a full understanding of the material. The key, however, to a young person succeeding is a good work ethic. Be stubborn, do not give up. The subjects of calculus, trigonometry, etc. have been around a long time and are actually very fundamental in nature. Understand the basics and college math will become very doable for anyone with the will to succeed.

I am a manager at my job and a father of 6. I know how to explain things and I will not give up on a student. However, this only works if the student gives back.

If you feel I can be of help, feel free to contact me anytime through WyzAnt.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Many students have trouble with Algebra 1 because of the addition of variables, the "x" in equations instead of arithmetic numbers. It is the students first introduction into mathematical thinking and problem solving.

Being an Engineer and working in the technical fields, I can explain the subject in practical terms and provide a student with the basic tools to succeed in Algebra 1. By knowing the basic laws of Algebra taught in Algebra 1, we will create a gateway to higher mathematics in your future.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a continuation of Algebra 1. If you have mastered the basic laws taught in Algebra 1, Algebra 2 will be easy. Often a review of the basics learned is needed as math courses often build on one another. Algebra 2 usually contains subject matter on quadratic equations, equations of straight lines and word problems with applications,

There are many applications learned in Algebra 2 that can be used in your daily life and future job. My degrees in Engineering allow me to share practical applications and will help make the subject enjoyable and rewarding.

Calculus

I have been a practicing engineer for over 30 years and have worked in analysis for a good part of my life. I enjoy sharing knowledge and showing young people real life applications in calculus. Calculus is a subject that requires background in trigonometry and algebra in order to excel at it. We can work on background through differential equations as you require for your career.

Linear Algebra

I am a 1985 Magna Cum Laude graduate in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University located in Boston MA. I also possess a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of RI in which I focused on systems analysis which relies heavily on linear algebra.

Mechanical Engineering

I am a 1985 Magna Cum Laude graduate in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University located in Boston MA. In the past 30 years, I have worked in many of the fields in mechanical engineering with the Navy, Aerospace industry and private industry where I apply the education required in mechanical engineering. I have worked in design, analysis, R&D and computer programming. I am currently the engineering lab manager at HTP, Inc. where I am responsible for all aspects of running an engineering lab including training technicians.

Physics

I have been an engineer for over 30 years and use physics in my job on a daily basis. While having textbook knowledge of the subject, we would also be able to discuss practical situations and their physics.

Trigonometry

I have been an engineer for over 30 years and posses degrees in Mechanical (BSME) and Electrical Engineering (MSEE). All aspects of engineering require a working knowledge of trigonometry. This has provided me with the knowledge and experience to tutor young people in trigonometry so that you can apply this knowledge to your math and science courses. The subject has many practical applications that I can bring to your attention as trigonometry is often required in my daily job.

Knowledgeable and understanding

Mark was very good working with my son. He explained problems thoroughly and gave him tools to help with understanding Algebraic equations.
