About Edward

PICK ME! PICK ME!!

More than 25 years of teaching, consulting, and management have taught me one important thing - people want you to care about their success before they become comfortable with letting you lead them. I believe I am an effective tutor because, regardless of the age or level of education of the individual I'll be guiding, a rapport will be built that will allow us to work well together.

I've had substantial business experience, which allows me to bring a broad, real world perspective to tutoring subjects such as economics, business, and finance. A portion of that time spent in business was as a sales manager for a Wall Street investment firm. Having trained and managed hundreds of advisers, I am skilled at helping individuals pass the Series 7, Series 63, and Series 66 exams.

As a college professor, I believe writing proficiency is an underdeveloped skill. Many students are challenged in expressing their thoughts effectively in writing. I'm able to improve the quality of writing for any student by helping them develop a style, while building their vocabulary and proofreading their grammar.

For young students, I start with the aforementioned grammar and vocabulary training, and my students are better prepared for their standardized tests, such as the ACT, SAT, and GED. Therefore, if your child needs assistance with prealgebra, algebra 1, algebra 2 - on up to the SAT Math or SAT Writing exams - I'm your guy.

As you can read from the reviews I've had, my students learn, and feel comfortable communicating with me. I even make learning what are often perceived as the difficult subjects - Chemistry and American History - fun for your child. These were my favorite subjects to teach, and therefore, for your students who are struggling with these (or taking an advanced placement course), my ability to make such topics interesting will raise their grades - and possible lower your college costs.

Send a message to learn more about my teaching style, and let's schedule to meet - in person or online. I guarantee that you or your child will benefit from our working together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

This is my first love as a teaching subject - so much so, that when I plan to teach in the K-12 system, I will teach American History. I have tutored this informally, and used history as a basis for my work in the financial management field - the history of the financial markets in this country. I have broad knowledge of the Founding Fathers and how our government was structured, as well as a working knowledge of the actions that led to seminal changes in our Constitution and laws.

Basketball

I was a college basketball player - not a star, but someone who had to work very hard to make it on to the court. I learned a great deal from excellent coaches, and coached high school-aged players for three years.
I also have been a basketball referee on the grade school and high school level.

Additionally, I have background and certification in personal training and sports nutrition, so I'm able to offer an understanding of the physiological of improving basketball ability, along with teaching the fundamentals of the game.

Business

I have been a successful franchisee with two national chains, as well as having assisted others in writing business plans to start their own businesses. As a management consultant, I guide existing business owners in developing the appropriate systems and controls to generate more profit and cash flow. When working with me, you get the best of years of big company experience matched with an understanding of how to apply best practices to multiple business entities.

Fitness

I believe I would be well-qualified to tutor a broad array of subjects under the heading of fitness. I have been a certified personal trainer and a franchise owner of a number of health supplement retail locations. Also, I am Certified in Sports Nutrition, and I am completing my Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition, which an emphasis on setting up programs to improve athletic performance for high schoolers through improved nutrition.

Macroeconomics

I believe that individuals make decisions about money based upon scarcity and risk. It is also the basis of what we learn about economic theory - and this is one of the easiest ways I learned to explain the concepts of the subject. I completed my MBA in Global Business Management using this method, and I believe that it is easily communicated to and understood by anyone who has made purchase decisions.

Microeconomics

I believe that individuals make decisions about money based upon scarcity and risk. It is also the basis of what we learn about economic theory - and this is one of the easiest ways I learned to explain the concepts of the subject. I completed my MBA in Global Business Management using this method, and I believe that it is easily communicated to and understood by anyone who has made purchase decisions.

Series 63

I believe I would be well-qualified to tutor students to assist them in passing the series 63 exam. Having passed the exam twice (due to leaving and re-entering the industry), I have more than sufficient familiarity with the techniques needed to pass the exam.

Having spent more than 8 years in a management in the financial services industry, I have successfully assisted many individuals in getting through the Series 63. I'm confident that I'd be able to do the same for many others.

Series 7

I first passed the Series 7 exam on Dec. 12, 1987 on my first attempt - during a time when only 16% of individuals passed on their first attempt. I left the industry in 1999, and when I returned in 2006, I had to take the test, again. I scored an 84 the first time I passed the test, and this time, I scored a 95.

As a manager in the securities industry for 8 years, I have worked with many individuals to become comfortable with the variety of securities exams. I believe I can assist others in understanding the concepts and doing well.

Writing

In my opinion, the ability to write will be a major point of differentiating members entering the workforce in the future. As a professor in college, I focused substantial attention on proper writing basics, and held students accountable to high standards of written communications - as a method of improving their future earning potential. As a business consultant, I write marketing material and proposals for all of my clients.
