Merrimack College (Human Development)
Hello! My passion to teach came when I was a volunteer in high school in the special needs room. After this I knew I truly wanted to be a teacher because not only is it so rewarding... But it's fun!
While I was helping other high school students I did decide that I would love to teach younger children too. Throughout my college career I had the option of working with many different elementary school aged children at difference schools of all different backgrounds. No matter the school or grade level I always knew I was headed in the right direction.
I am currently licensed as an elementary educator for the state of Massachusetts.
Having passed all Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure I am very familiar with the common core state standards.
My experience in working with many grade levels, lesson planning for all, MTEL experience and having read many common core standards for various grades makes me feel comfortable in teaching K-6th grade.
I have taken a foundations of reading, intensive course and passed my MTEL all on the umbrella of reading.
Please feel free to contact me with any help that you think I can provide; I look forward to hearing from you! :) Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have spent numerous hours aligning my lesson plans while student teaching with the common core standards. I also have reviewed the frameworks in studying for my MTEL exams. I feel the common core is something I am very familiar with and constantly have access to as a future teacher.
Having completed my student teaching for my Elementary Education degree in a second grade classroom I chose to stay in the school and substitute. I worked with all grade levels while substitute teaching, K-5. I also have taken and passed all required tests for educator licensure in Massachusetts and hold mine in Elementary Education.
Not only have I taken a Teaching Reading course but I have also taken and passed my Foundations of Reading MTEL which focuses on all of the aspects of reading including phonics. I feel that reading is a passion of mine and my favorite area to work on with children.
Reading is a passion of mine! Not only do I love to read myself, but enjoy instilling the same passion into beginner readers. In my undergrad I took a series of courses in teaching reading and the whole umbrella of what reading entails. I have since then taken the Foundations of Reading MTEL and have worked with many students who were just beginning to read. I have worked with 2nd graders who were able to jump reading levels with my support, and some kindergarten students who started off their reading success in my classroom!
