About Juliana

I truly enjoy teaching and sharing my love of photography. I believe every person has artistic and creative abilities that are unique to that specific individual. These abilities can be on or near the surface of a person, or sometimes deeper within them. It takes an open and caring teacher to help nurture and bring out the artistic inspiration that can sometimes be buried deeper under the surface in some people. My job as an effective photography tutor is to help my students look at the world in a new way; through their camera lens, and to help translate individual unique visions from idea to fruition.

My love of photography began at a summer art camp when I was 14 years old. I learned about 35mm film and how to shoot, process and print it in the darkroom. I continued my study of photography throughout high school. I attended Hampshire College in Amherst, MA where I decided to take my love of photography to the next level, both technically and aesthetically. I majored in photography at Hampshire, with a concentration on medium format film, and printing both black&white and color film manually. I took history of photography courses as well as digital photography courses, and my work-study job was in the digital darkroom.

I also taught black and white darkroom photography to two separate groups of young women; students at Mt. Holyoke College, and young mothers out of Holyoke, MA through a program called the Care Center. Since graduating Hampshire I have done photo shoots for weddings, engagements, senior photos, as well doing several shoots for families with a terminally ill loved one. I was also a featured artist in an art showcase in Boston in 2014.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
