To begin with, I love what I do! I also have the experience, both as a School Counselor in some of the most academic and selective public high schools in the state and as a private college counselor throughout New England. My background and experience – of over 15 years – has granted me the opportunity to meet with all types of admissions representatives through the state, region and nationally to stay updated on specific college admissions requirements, trends and building relationships with these professionals. I know admissions standards for colleges and universities and have assisted over 1000 students and families with the complete admissions process. I feel strongly in ‘matching’ students to the ‘right’ school for them in terms of academics, majors, campus and social life and other important factors in this decision-making process. My services cover every aspect of the admissions landscape, from identifying and creating a college list; matching the specifics in terms of location, size, majors, chances of acceptance to 'mock' interviews, essay writing, teacher recommendations, how to effectively position your leadership and extra-curricular activities to helping to choose the right standardized test (SAT, ACT and test-optional) that will give you the best chance for the highest scores. In addition I will make sure that you are fully positioned to have the best opportunity of acceptance while generating a full and comprehensive college list.
I also incorporate the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) to help clients identify careers and majors that tap into their personality, interests and skills. Since I am passionate at what I do – and feel confident in my skills and knowledge – my work with each individual and family is done with enthusiasm and dedication to my role and making the process as less stressful as possible. In addition, I advise students and families on the financial aid and scholarship process which is the back-end, yet important part to this timeline.
As for my background, I worked as a School Counselor at the Dover-Sherborn, Acton-Boxborough and Berlin-Boylston Public Schools and presently employed at Westford Academy. I also started my own private college advising company in New Hampshire in 2009. I have a Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
