I am certified by Massachusetts General Hospital in Orton-Gillingham, the scientifically proven, individualized, multisensory approach to reading, writing, and spelling. Designed originally for people with dyslexia, anyone with difficulties in these areas can benefit from this phonics based approach.
I have tutored children of all ages and trained teachers in the O-G approach for over 11 years. My first love is working with children with reading difficulties and watching them go from tears of frustration and despair to smiles and confidence as they learn to read. The Orton-Gillingham approach uses the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses to introduce and reinforce learning. My goal is to reach each person through his strengths, strengthen the areas where he is weak, and to provide solid strategies to help him become an independent and enthusiastic reader. Our son was diagnosed with dyslexia about four years ago. Despite the school's efforts to improve our son's reading skills, he was hardly moving forward. We found Diana through this website while looking for tutors specializing in language based disabilities such as "dyslexia" that were trained in Orton-Gillingham approach.
After three months of tutoring with Diana, we can finally see a drastic improvement in our son's reading. The school also reported that he has jumped up two levels in three months! Diana is not only a great tutor but she really connects well with the kids in a fun loving way. Our son is always looking forward to seeing her. I highly recommend Diana.
Diana has been working with my daughter for almost a month and her warm and patient manner has created a comfortable learning environment. My daughter is able to explore and learn reading concepts that she has struggled to master and develop greater confidence in her ability to tackle challenging words. Thank you, Diana.
I would highly recommend Diana for help with dyslexia. My son started 6th grade needing reading support in school every other day. By the end of the year, he was meeting all his benchmarks, and we have learned that he will not need supplemental reading support for 7th grade. We are all beyond thrilled!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
