Providence College (Elementary, Special)
I am a current Elementary and Special Education Major at Providence College, studying to become a teacher! I have a summer job working at a Daycare in my town working with Kindergarten and First Graders, but am interested in tutoring children in Elementary school in any subject. I have experience being in First and Second Grade classrooms, student teaching Literacy, Math, and Science. I am excited to gain practice in individualized teaching, as well as assist children around me who are looking for more help in their academic subjects!
I have worked at multiple after-school programs requiring me to assist elementary students with homework, and have weekly experience planning age-appropriate and skill-based lesson plans in literacy, math, and science for first and second graders.
After taking a Teaching Literacy course last semester, I am aware and confident in teaching Literacy to all age-groups and ranges of interest and talent through different methods and exercises. Student Teaching in a First Grade Classroom focusing on Literacy allowed me to execute these skills and practice individual and whole instruction in Reading and Phonics, ranging from reading comprehension to digraphs and blends.
Most of my lessons in my student teaching literacy class were focused around Phonics, including digraphs, consonants, and sounds of letters. This practice has enabled me to be prepared to teaching Phonics lessons and incorporate Phonics in my tutoring appointments.
I will have a full-time job over the summer, but am available Monday-Friday after 6PM, and available Saturday and Sunday for tutoring appointments.
I am excited and look forward to hearing from you! I promise to create lessons and activities for your child that are age-appropriate, fun, interesting, and beneficial! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a current Elementary/Special Education major at Providence College. And I have had two semesters of student teaching, working with first and second graders teaching literacy, math, and science. I have worked at multiple after school programs with homework help, and I have a full-time summer job at a daycare with kindergarteners and first graders.
As a prospective teacher studying Elementary and Special Education, I have been able to practice my grammar skills through teaching while taking my Literacy course. This course taught us phonics, grammar, and reading (techniques, activities, logistics). I was able to use what I learned teaching literacy lessons once a week in a first grade classroom.
Being an Elementary/Special Education major, I have had one full semester learning about phonics, as well as executing my talent once a week in a first grade classroom.
