I am a passionate music educator with a love for learning, exploration, and making mistakes. One of the best things about music is its vastness - you can never know enough about it, and there's no such thing as "getting it right." I am a passionate music educator with a love for learning, exploration, and making mistakes. One of the best things about music is its vastness - you can never know enough about it, and there's no such thing as "getting it right." Music is both objectively universal and subjectively personal. Everyone experiences it slightly differently. My goal as a music teacher is to lead my students towards a deeper love for and understanding of how music works; that is, the "why" of the art.
My training is primarily in classical instrumental music, but I have studied other genres and venues (such as jazz, rock, and folk) throughout the course of my schooling and career. I offer a great deal of knowledge in the fields of music theory and clarinet technique, and my skills in other areas are well-developed.
I prefer to structure lessons based on the subject and goal of each session. I expect students to come in with an idea of what they would like to accomplish, and from that foundation I am able to build a process that is well-suited to each individual. Often, homework will come more in the form of practicing or experimenting, as I am not in the business of assigning busywork. I am currently in the process of completing an independent study in clarinet pedagogy.
I can help you with Clarinet, Composition, Ear Training, General Music, Instrumental Music, Choral Music, Music Theory, Music History.
