About Nathan

My love of teaching and helping others stems from a burning desire to become the absolute best I can possibly be, and wanting others to have that same experience. As a graduate of one of Western Massachusetts’ most rigorous and challenging business schools, I have seen firsthand what is possible when one rises and conquers in spite of limitations. In my current position as a certified Level I professional tutor at Mount Wachusett Community College and Fitchburg High School, I have helped hundreds of students gain confidence and competence in math, and watched as they stunned themselves with what they accomplished academically, professionally, and often personally as well! Now, I look to take my expertise and experience to you, to help you take you or your child’s skills and confidence to the next level.

I tutor all levels of mathematics up to and including Precalculus and Statistics - this includes any and all SAT, GED and Accuplacer preparations as well as coursework or independent study. As a professional musician and business school graduate, I am also qualified to tutor a number of music and business topics as well – Music Theory, Drums and Percussion, Business Management, Strategic Management, Marketing, Micro- and Macroeconomics, Accounting I, and Introductory Finance. Whether we’re graphing linear equations, practicing rudiments, or balancing a ledger, our sessions will be set at a challenging but manageable pace. The point is growth, not frustration!

I have exceedingly high standards for my sessions as well as the content presented within, so be certain that I will ask for honest feedback. Your satisfaction is my highest priority, and therefore, I never bill students or parents for sessions they're not completely satisfied with.

I am flexible with time, but I do expect advance notice when cancelling sessions - I currently have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I can certainly work with you to reschedule a time that's convenient for us both.

I am willing to travel within a 30-mile radius of Gardner, MA (That includes southern NH and points west and east). Whether you prefer a private or public meeting, I'm happy to accommodate, and if you are local, you can certainly come to me - this will all be arranged prior to our first session.

I look forward to having the privilege of working with you, and helping you on your path to academic, professional, or personal success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutor Algebra 1 as part of my tutoring for a introductory course at Mount Wachusett Community College (MAT092), as well as its high-school level counterpart (Math Modeling) at Fitchburg High School. I've worked with students of all ages and ability levels on topics from rational numbers to quadratic functions, and everything in between.

Algebra 2

I tutor Algebra 2 as part of my tutoring for a introductory course at Mount Wachusett Community College (MAT092), as well as its high-school level counterpart (Math Modeling) at Fitchburg High School. I've worked with students of all ages and ability levels on topics from rational numbers to quadratic functions, and everything in between.

Drums

I have played professionally for 13 years, in over 25 ensembles, with styles ranging from rock to jazz to latin to R&B and hip hop to metal. I was accepted into one of the UMass Amherst Chamber Jazz Ensembles, a prestigious group for the best players on the campus, as a non-music major, which is very rare. I've also successfully given drum lessons to students from age 6 to age 50.

Elementary Math

I have worked with children 6 years of age and up in various disciplines of math and other topics. I use modeling, real-world situations, and activities to develop critical and analytical thinking, as well as a keen appreciation and love for math at a young age.

Geometry

I tutor Geometry as part of my tutoring for a introductory course at Mount Wachusett Community College (MAT092), as well as its high-school level counterpart (Math Modeling) at Fitchburg High School. I've worked with students of all ages and ability levels on topics from plotting points on an XY/Cartesian plane, to finding the volume of odd shapes.

Microsoft Excel

I have logged approximately 2000 hours in Excel (Versions 1998, 2003, 2010 and 2013, as well as Office 365), using its formula catalog and data manipulation extensively. I've used it in a variety of settings - academic, business and personal - and have advanced knowledge of applications for each.

SAT Math

I personally scored 720 on the math portion of the SAT, and have worked as a professional tutor with many students at a high school and beginning college level, to prepare for the SAT as well as other standardized tests (including Accuplacer and GED).
