About Kevin

I currently teach life skills at the high school level. My program involves students with an array of intellectual disabilities and autism. I focus my teaching methods on functionality in the areas of English, math, vocational and ADL skills. On top of that, I love to incorporate the social sciences into my lessons, as I am a huge History buff. My passion for education often exceeds the classroom as I offer extra help after school to struggling students preparing for upcoming tests and projects. I also have experience teaching organizational and study skills. I do not limit myself to only working with students with disabilities, as I have experience teaching kids of all ages and abilities. Ironically, it usually ends up that the kids with the highest IQ's need the most help learning how to study properly!

This is my second year as a special educator. Before that I spent 8 years working for a youth organization as a therapeutic mentor and in-home therapist. This is where I truly found my calling helping kids improve their self-esteem and discover their true potential. I have obtained a wealth of experience in dealing with behavioral issues, ADHD and extreme lacks of motivation. To me, there is no better feeling then knowing you made a difference in the way a child views their education.

I am a certified special education teacher which includes experience with foundations of reading and competency in common core English standards. I currently teach functional English skills as part of a life skills program.

I have obtained my Master's degree in special education (moderate disabilities 8-12). I have over 8 years of experience with various disabilities including Autism, Aspergers, ODD and ADD/ADHD as a teacher, in-home family therapist and therapeutic mentor.

I look forward to hearing from interested students! Please contact me with questions regarding scheduling and policies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I currently have a master's degree in special education with an initial license in moderate disabilities grades 8-12. I am in my second year of teaching life skills to students with a focus on transition goals. As part of student transition goals, my curriculum consists of career exploration and skills. Students train as measured by the LCCE curriculum in preparation to transition to other job training programs.
