About Lisa

Thank you for taking the time to explore my profile. I have been in education for about 14 years. I have my teaching license in English (5-12), Middle School Math, and Special Education, as well as my Master in Teaching degree from Regis College.

Currently I am a special education teacher at a high school. I work with students with moderate special needs. In my job, I spend my days tutoring/re-teaching students in English, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, U.S. History, World History, as well as MCAS preparation. I have designed and implemented a study skills program through the Academic Support classes that I teach. In addition to teaching Academic Support classes, I have co-taught English, Algebra 1, US History, Health, Biology, and Chemistry.

At my previous school, a middle school, I was also a special education teacher. Part of my duties included teaching sixth grade English and seventh and eighth grade math skills. My role as a special educator included co-teaching English, Pre-Algebra, General Science, and World History.

In addition to teaching curriculum and study skills, as a special educator, I have written and implemented Individualized Education Programs. I understand the learning needs of students with a variety of learning related disabilities.

As student at Regis College, I was taught how to present material in different ways to help different types of learners gain access to the curriculum being taught. I have found it beneficial to my students to present or re-teach material through visuals, auditory materials , and hands-on or movement activities. Over the ten years I have been in education, I have collected and used a wide variety of teaching strategies and tools. It is my goal to make learning as engaging and fun as I can.

I am a creative, highly organized, outgoing, and easy to work with teacher. I have been praised for my teaching and tutoring performance by employers, colleagues, students, parents, and my own instructors. Excellent references can be provided upon request.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked in Special Education for 9 years as a paraprofessional and as a Special Education teacher/contact. I am currently an MSN at a high school. I am currently only teaching students who are IEPs and 504 plans, many of which I have written. The students I work with have a variety of disabilities, including, but not limited to ADD/ADHD.

I earned my Masters in Teaching in Special Education from Regis College in 2011 with a 3.9 GPA. I currently hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Moderate Special Needs. This license required me to take and pass three different MTEL exams.

My own three children have varied levels of ADD/ADHD.

I have excellent references from colleagues and employers available upon request.

English

As a middle school teacher I taught six grade English as well as co-taught eighth grade English. As a high school teacher I co-taught 9th grade English. Additionally, as a high school special educator I have re-taught English concepts and skills to grades 9-12.

Social Studies

As part of my teaching jobs as a Moderate Special Needs teacher, at a middle school and high school, required me to co-teach World History and US History. I had to learn the curriculum and how to best deliver it to a variety of students. Additionally, as part of my Masters in Teaching program, I was required to take courses in teaching the social sciences.

The Massachusetts CORE curriculum will no longer include History/Social Studies as its own curriculum. Those subjects will be covered through the literacy of the the English curriculum standards. I hold a Massachusetts teacher's license in English.
