For most of my life I have been a performing and teaching musician. Music is a source of profound joy for me, no matter whether I'm performing, teaching, or learning myself, and my hope is to pass as much of that as possible on to students. For most of my life I have been a performing and teaching musician. Music is a source of profound joy for me, no matter whether I'm performing, teaching, or learning myself, and my hope is to pass as much of that as possible on to students. I've had countless wonderful experiences as a teacher/tutor, and I've studied with renowned music educators.

Central to my teaching is the belief that hard work, persistence and desire—not natural talent or ability—are the keys to success in music. If students approach lessons with this attitude, their studies with me will yield rewards that extend far beyond music.

Client satisfaction is paramount to my work. I pride myself on the highest degree of professionalism. I am committed to building positive, long-term relationships and being responsive and reachable.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, as well as a BS in Speech Communication from James Madison University. In addition to teaching private and group instrument lessons, I have tutored students in ear training, music theory, and arranging. I have a sincere appreciation for many styles and eras of music, and I encourage students to seek out music that inspires them.

I hope you will contact me if I can help you in your study of music. I wish you the very best in your musical journey, wherever it takes you!

Piano

Piano

Currently I teach 10-15 piano students. In addition to piano technique, music reading and theory, I work with students on pieces in the styles they enjoy. I particularly enjoy teaching pop, rock and jazz, as well as beginning classical piano. Piano is a perfect instrument to learn the fundamentals of music, and it's easily adaptable to any age.

Ear Training,

Ear Training

I have perfect pitch, which has been of great benefit to my students. When I was admitted to Berklee College of Music, I tested out of the first 3 levels of Ear Training and successfully completed Ear Training 4, which was challenging but very rewarding. I have tutored Berklee undergraduate Ear Training students and incorporated ear training exercises into private guitar and bass instruction as well.
General Music,

General Music

As a magna cum laude Berklee College of Music graduate, I successfully completed a rigorous undergraduate degree program in Professional Music. I have a comprehensive understanding of general music subjects, including harmony/music theory, arranging, improvising, and music history. In addition, I maintain an active career as a performer, songwriter and bandleader, which enhances my ability as a teacher.
Guitar,

Guitar

Over a decade of providing private and group guitar instruction has provided me with a wealth of teaching experience. My teaching toolbox includes method books, technical and listening exercises, and my own materials. While I aim to provide structure and a path for students, I am not a one-size-fits-all teacher; I recognize every student as an individual with unique ability, learning style, personality and goals. Above all, I want each lesson to be a fun and rewarding experience that helps instill a sense of joy and curiosity about music.
Music Theory,

Music Theory

Having earned a bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music, I successfully completed the school's comprehensive harmony/music theory program. This covered music theory concepts from early Baroque era music through contemporary jazz and pop styles. I strive to make music theory concepts accessible, and I incorporate listening examples to bring these ideas to life.
