I found my knack for tutoring when I was in grade school assisting fellow students with their assignments, as I was always the first one done, and the teacher asked me to use the rest of the time to help my classmates. I was best at math and science, and I particularly enjoyed tutoring math. I attended the Mass Academy of Math and Science, a high school for gifted students.

I have been tutoring math, science, and English since 2008 and my students have all vastly improved their grades and understanding of the material in the subjects I have worked with them on. I vary my teaching style to the student's learning style and help them to grasp a solid foundation in understanding the subject, not just learn to pass a test. I focus on building life learning skills, and good study habits so that the student can carry those values to their other school subjects and activities.

I have subbed in schools - both public and private schools - and my knowledge and experience have given me great insight into the current teaching curricula used today (including understanding Common Core teaching principles). I ask my students leading questions to help them arrive at the answer. I don't just give out the answers, I help guide the student to find it on their own. My philosophy on teaching is to give the students the tools they need to learn. I would love to see all my students be life-long learners, always seeking to enrich their minds. I am more than just a tutor, I am an Academic Coach to my students and an Education Consultant to the parents. The value I provide as a mentor to my students is far greater than the price of the lesson that parents pay for.

Violin Teaching:
After years of being a star violin student, my violin teacher asked me to be her assistant at the children's group classes. As she grew older and wanted to spend more time with her family, she sent some of her beginner students to me. I managed a very successful violin teaching business for myself, teaching up to 15 students each week after school during my highschool years. I also taught my own set of group lessons of young students to play for Nursing Homes. I started a chamber group of my best students for special performances at local town fairs. I was concertmaster of my school orchestra, and a soloist in my college orchestra, and I played with the regional professional orchestra.

Now I teach a number of violin students, helping them reach their goals - whether it be to prepare for Districts or All-State auditions, youth orchestra auditions, help with school orchestra pieces, further their study to improve their technique and sound, or just learn some fun songs to gain a fun skill and have a greater appreciation for music. I don't stick to one particular method book, but rather, I see how the student learns, where their interests are, and go from there. My students love studying the violin with me because I show them how they can succeed at it in their own way, whether a gifted virtuoso or a tone deaf beginner - I focus on a "constant improvement model" which allows every student to get something out of the experience and feel good about what they have learned and accomplished. My most ambitious violin students place top in their respective districts, pass auditions for various prestigious youth orchestras, and are concertmasters of their school orchestras. My "learn for enjoyment" students love learning how to play songs for their family and friends, and get a kick out of learning all the awesome capabilities of the violin and its diverse sound. I help the student to determine what music means to them, and cater the lesson plan accordingly.

Ballroom Dancing:
In college I took up ballroom dancing, and quickly rose to the top levels. I was captain of my ballroom dance team and taught my teammates between our coaching lessons. After college I taught a few ballroom classes here and there at different studios, YMCAs/Rec centers, and worked with two other collegiate ballroom dance teams. I have taught social dancers, wedding couples, and competitive dancesport athletes. I am great at choreographing wedding dances to any song of your choice. I have worked with many people as they prepared for their wedding day.

I have taught dance lessons for over 10 years. My ballroom students place high at competitions. My social dance students report greater ease of social lead/follow ability, and my wedding choreography students are immensely happy with their beautiful unforgettable first dance on their special day where they get to dazzle their guests with their super sweet new moves.

-----
I guess you can say, that I just really have a knack for teaching and explaining difficult concepts in an easy to understand way.

Ballroom Dancing

I am a gold level ballroom dance competitor. I started dancing on a collegiate ballroom team in 2002, and since then, I have continued my training with top coaches. I attend workshops and seminars to stay up to date with the latest styles and techniques. I used to teach my ballroom dance team at college. Since college, I have worked with two other college teams. I've taught various group classes at small studios. I have also worked with wedding couples in preparation for their First Dance. I enjoy choreographing. I love to teach dance because it's fun for me and I like spreading that joy. If you think you have two left feet, come take a class with me. I will show you just how easy it can be, and get you dancing in no time. I have taught a number of students and I understand the different learning types. I can alter my teaching methods to suit the learning style of the student. I am highly skilled at all the four styles of ballroom dancing: Standard, Smooth, Rhythm, and Latin. I have also studied Salsa, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, and a little bit of Lindy Hop. I am best at: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha-cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Mambo, Bolero, Jive, Paso Doble, Samba, and Viennese Waltz.
Salsa Dancing

Salsa Dancing

I have been salsa dancing since 2003 and I have been teaching salsa since 2006. I enjoy going out salsa dancing at various venues and I have performed at a few places. When teaching beginner students, I focus on the simplicity of movement and feeling the music. I break it down in a way that is very easy to understand. I work on solid lead and follow concepts so that you will feel very comfortable going out social dancing with anyone. For my intermediate/advanced students, I help them to add style to their dancing. I teach the finer details of the more complicated step patterns, always breaking them down to their basic elements. Students that start with me progress faster because they have a solid foundation of understanding the movement when they dance. I get great reviews on my lessons from all my students.

Violin

I have been playing violin for over 20 years. I am trained in Suzuki Method, Classical music, and Fiddle. I started playing violin when I was 10 years old. I excelled very quickly and was soon put into the advanced orchestra at my school. In middle school I became concert mistress of the orchestra, and in high school I played with a college orchestra. I always got into the Districts orchestra every year, and I attended summer music camps every summer of my childhood. In high school, I taught violin lessons to 15 students each week after school. I also taught a group class each weekend and I arranged music for the group to play at local nursing homes (to satisfy my community service requirement for graduation). I also prepared my students to play for recitals and auditions of their own. Though I didn't go to college for music, I did play in the regional professional symphony orchestra in the town I went to college. The strings program at my college was poor, so I auditioned for the professional orchestra and was the only student from my college to get in for 3 years. I started a string quartet group and was the student group leader for our rehearsals. I brought the group up to a level where we were asked to play for the President's Reception Speech on Parent's Weekend at the college. I still enjoy playing now, and I have been branching out to the local fiddle and Irish Seisun music scene. I started teaching again in 2008 and have been steadily growing my own studio of students.

patient and optimistic

Sharon was willing to take us on with a very limited schedule. She wasn't annoyed when my daughter didn't complete her prep work, and made enough of an impression to get things done for the second session. We haven't gotten our results yet, but my daughter felt much more comfortable with her test and feels she did much better.

A wonderful tutor

Algebra 2 has been a struggle for our inpatient high schooler, but working with Sharon has given her clarity & confidence in the subject. She walked out of a session with Sharon and said, "I get it!" Thanks Sharon!

Knowledgeable and patient

Sharon has been amazing over the years with both of my children. She makes herself available to help when certain material can be extra difficult to get through recently during deadlines and catch up work. She gives them a better understanding, confidence and self help tools they can use on their own.

Great tutor for teenagers!

My daughter had some problems with math at the end of last school year. I thought tutor would be a great solution to help her to catch up before school starts. On the way to her first class my 15 year old started to argue with me that she will be fine with after school help and she does not need a tutor. Sharon has a great knowledge of how to talk to teenagers. It's really a miracle. Considering that my daughter did not want to get out of the car for the first lesson, now she is looking forward to each class with Sharon. I could see the results already - my daughter became more organized, gets her questions for Sharon ahead of time, and her grades went up. Sharon offered her help in between the classes over the phone or email, which is very convenient if my daughter has a question and needs help before the next class. Sharon is a very pleasant, knowledgeable teacher and has great personality. Downside- she does not come to your house. We have to drive to Weston for classes.

Perfect fit.

My 12 year old's first private lessons with Sharon have had immediate, noticeable improvement both playing and practicing. Sharon's careful analysis of Amy's level and ability has let her design both constructive lessons and homework. Amy looks forward to seeing Sharon. Great Teacher!!

Great Teacher with flexible hours

My daughter is very pleased with Sharon. She is a very talented teacher. Sharon has been working with my daughter over 19 months. She has great patience with her lessons and often helps with my daughter’s orchestra pieces in the middle school. Sharon knows how to teach certain things in an easy to understand way for her students.

Great tutor with ALOT of patience!!

Sharon helped my 3rd grader and 1st grader stay one step ahead of the lessons they were receiving in school. Given their young age and the fact that their lessons started at 5:00, they sometimes ran out of steam and could get rather antsy. Sharon remained very patient and was never out of ideas as to how she could regain their focus and keep the lessons moving. She's a great tutor and when the need arises I will definitely be contacting her again!

Patient and "multi-skilled"

Sharon has been tutoring our 7th grade daughter since last spring. The focus is math but Sharon is great with overall study skills and helps with science, social studies and even french. Her flexibility has been great! Our daughter now saves specific items to talk through with Sharon in both math and other subjects each week. We highly recommend Sharon!
