Clark University (enrolled currently) (History)
I’m Meghan P., and I’m a History student at Clark University, in Worcester, although I spend my summers in Northampton. I have experience tutoring high school students, primarily in history, as well as five years of experience in childcare, working with children between the ages of five and nine. I have worked with kids with learning disorders in both age groups, and have particularly enjoyed the opportunity to creatively adjust my methods, or discover entirely new ones, to suit the student’s needs. As I personally have ADHD, that went undiagnosed throughout the earliest years of my education, I have learned over the years how to develop the methods and coping strategies that were necessary for me to become highly successful academically, and I would be happy to share what I have learned from my personal experience with you or your student. While I am especially apt at more “verbal” subjects, at the elementary school level I can also assist in math or science, and as I once struggled with these subjects, I am especially patient and understanding with children who have difficulties with them. I understand how frustrating it can be sometimes!
Beyond the elementary school level, I am happy to tutor in English, history, government, and geography, and have done exceptionally well on the AP Literature, AP English Language, AP European History, AP United States History, and AP Human Geography exams, as well as the Literature and History SAT subject tests, and so am able to help with the preparation for those exams. For the regular SAT, as I scored nearly perfectly on the verbal sections- Reading and Writing- I am confident that I could help a student who was struggling with those parts of the test. I also have proofreading/editing experience, having edited my schools magazine for two years, and having been trusted to proofread family members; newspaper columns before publication, and could help students edit and prepare college essays and other academic (or creative!) work.
I look forward to meeting with you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took AP US History in high school, and received a 5 on the AP exam, and a Women's History major in college (which requires a multi-region approach), I have continued my study of American history. During high school, I successfully tutored US History students who were struggling with the subject.
I regularly use Microsoft Windows, and have helped my grandmother and her friends become comfortable with the program as well. I have also assisted friends with troubleshooting in Microsoft Windows, and have been taught by people who work in Computer Support at my university how to solve various problems that have come up for me in the program. In the past, I have written up guides for this program (mostly to help older people that are not acquainted with computers in general).
