About Ben

I am an experienced, flexible and friendly tutor who has worked with students in 2nd-12th grade in a range of subjects including study skills and memory techniques. I have worked as a full-time teacher at several grade levels in both public and private schools in the Boston area and now in Western Mass. I hold a Master's degree in teaching and have earned MA state professional certification in elementary education, special education, middle school math, and middle and high school history. I've also worked as an educational consultant for the National Scrabble Association for the last 15 years. My experience includes working successfully and with innovation as a tutor and classroom teacher with students with ADHD, Autism spectrum, Asperger's, dyscalculia and other learning challenges.

I teach in a relaxed, fun manner and aim to understand and meet the current emotional and cognitive needs of each student I see. In general, I believe that patience is always the greatest gift we can give children.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Very Patient

Ben is a very patient kind and caring tutor. My daughter was apprehensive about tutoring but Ben put her at ease the very first day. I would recommend Ben to all my family and friends.
