Hi! I am a High School Math and Physics teacher in the Cape and Islands area. I'll describe my teaching experience in a minute. Before I do that, however: I'm in my late 40s and I've been teaching for 6 years. Before teaching, I had a long career in business, mainly in computers. I was a programmer then I had more and more responsible management positions. I was Vice President for a couple of companies. During all of those years, I kept it in the back of my mind that I wanted to teach some day. Finally I went back to school to get a Master's in Teaching Mathematics and became a Middle and then High School Math teacher. I love it.

And I stress that it's OK to be honest, even negative if that represents the truth. If the student's answer is problematic, I discuss it with the parent. Once the tutoring starts, I work very hard to find a way to make the work enjoyable for the student and not overwhelming.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
