I taught grade five in Somerville, MA for 36 years. I now work at a historical society setting up displays and teaching most of the third grade students of Medford the history of their city. We use the historical items from the society and I also bring my Civil War items and my collection of early photographic items such as tintypes, stereoviews, ambrotypes and cartes de visites.
I strive to make sure that my students understand the concepts that they are working on in a friendly and reassuring manner. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
