Hi Students & Parents,

I am a certified substitute teacher with the RI Department of Education currently working for the East Providence (RI) School Department. My primary teaching philosophy with my clients is to first focus on managing their studying methods, then work on helping them understand the subject matter being reviewed!!

I am very flexible and design different methods based on each student's individual learning curve. Once we find a technique that works, we can then develop the student's abilities while correcting any difficulties.

I have over six (06) years of academic and fieldwork in Aquaculture & Fisheries Technology (B.S. degree), marine biology and many other sciences, along with a strong mathematical background. In addition, with over fifteen (15) years of management and customer service experience, I have professionally trained many new and existing employees! I am a bi-lingual Brazilian (Portuguese) and American teacher who cannot wait to assist our future graduates, and possibly future college/university students!

Até a próxima vez! (Until next time!)

I completed courses in Organic Chemistry (and biochemistry) at the University of Rhode Island, specifically, Organic Chemistry 227 & 228 with their semester's respective labs. I have also been substitute teaching with the City of East Providence RI, and have taught some of the principles of organic chemistry in a few classes. Finally, Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry were essential subjects that I frequently utilized during my two years of post-matriculation NOAA research with finfish and shellfish aquaculture.

ADHD

I am someone who has ADD/ADHD, and utilized some valuable subject and time-management techniques from URI's Student Services office during my matriculation. My techniques involves condensing study material to key words and concepts, tracking yourself as you are working on math problem to avoid skipping Algebraic terms or mistakes, and modifying time schedule to increase number of studying sessions while being effective. I have been a Rhode Island certified substitute teacher since January 2014, and demonstrate these techniques when possible in my classes! I was working on my teaching certification (only had final full semester student-teaching course which I could not complete and also work a full-time job) and Master's degree at Southern CT State University.

Knowledgeable and very helpful

Joseph is teaching me how to do the chemistry problems that I have been having a difficult time with. He is patient, as I am trying to learn the concepts.

Flexible And Engages You In Learning!

Joe is very patient, flexible, and helps you comprehend difficult material such as Chemistry. Gives you tips on retaining, time management, and plans with you and your schedule to stay on top of the material. He breaks up the sessions into to 1.5-2.0 hours slots to help you retain the material. He is flexible but, to help you retain, he does short sessions breaking down the material in easy steps. Well worth the investment. His methods help you comprehend and retain the material long term. Don't hesitate to try him out!
