Greetings! I am a teacher/tutor with experience in teaching English for speakers of other languages. I have been teaching adult literacy and ESOL for over 8 years and before that I taught 4th and 5th grade in the public schools. I am currently teaching part-time for an organization in Amherst that works with immigrants. I also have a few private students in the Amherst area and would like to expand my private tutoring business.
I love working with students from other cultures, learning about their experiences and helping them to improve their English and feel comfortable in American culture. I can work with students to target all 4 language areas: speaking and pronunciation, listening and understanding, reading and writing.
I can meet with students in either Amherst or Northampton. I am available for tutoring in the afternoon and evening.
I am a great language tutor because I have many years of experience teaching English to adult immigrants and teaching literacy to adults who struggle with reading and writing. I offer a very professional and personal approach to improving your English. Our first meeting will include recording your speech, identifying your goals, some diagnostic exercises and generally getting to know each other. I tailor my instruction to fit your needs. I solicit feedback and reflective learning. I assign exercises for homework and have high expectations of my students. I assess student's progress and collaborate with them to insure their success. I am also friendly, reliable and interested in my students' lives and goals.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
