About Kirsten

I previously taught both first and third grade and am currently a reading specialist at a public school. I love working one on one with students to help them reach their full potential. As a student myself who benefited from tutoring, my hope is to provide my students and their families with both a positive and successful experience.

I specialize in tutoring elementary aged students in the area of reading, as I have my Master's in literacy and hold a reading specialist license. I will however, tutor in any subject area needed as well as provide help with homework and study skills. My goal for each session is to make sure my students are engaged, challenged and most importantly not overwhelmed.

Currently as a teacher, I hold myself to high standards and make it a priority to make a connection with all of my students. I believe it is most important for students to feel capable and it is my job to help them gain confidence in their learning.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold a teaching license k-6 and a reading specialist license k-12. I currently work full time as a reading specialist. I received my bachelor's in elementary education and my Master's in Literacy.

Phonics

I currently hold a reading specialist license k-12 and work full time as a Title One reading teacher. I received my Master's in literacy from Roger Williams University. I recently attended a workshop on Fundations, which is a reading program that involves the teaching of phonics. Both my first and third grade teaching experience as well as my coursework and licensure, highly qualifies me to teach this subject area.

Volleyball

I have been playing volleyball since I was in third grade. I played on my varsity high school team, participated in multiple volleyball camps, played on a travel/club team and was recruited to play in college where I started all 4 years as a setter (at Roger Williams University). I have coached volleyball camps and teams. I spent a year after college assisting the coaching staff of the RWU women's volleyball team.
