About Ena

"When you get it, you don't forget it!" That's my motto...

I am an experienced and certified teacher with over 11 years of collective experience in teaching and tutoring physics and math. I tutor in the evenings and weekends, in addition to teaching physics and math full time. My specialty is physics - from Conceptual to AP, and AP Calculus. I also help students to prepare for SAT II subject tests in physics and math.

I primarily serve the Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, and the Springfield area. I also do online tutoring, where I share my screen and create study notes along the way.

I work with a small number of students per year to ensure the highest possible performance throughout the year. I have helped students who either struggle in their physics and math subjects, or who are doing well and want to do better.

I understand the investment you are making in tutoring and strive to make the sessions efficient and productive. I do require that students communicate with me about their classes via email throughout the week, so that I can proactively prepare for our sessions.

Teaching Approach:
I provide nurturing and individualized attention to the students' specific needs, focusing on critical thinking, problem solving, lab reports. My students tell me that I make the complicated easy, and that they actually start liking physics after working with me. I keep the tutoring sessions light and try to make them fun, so that the students don't feel like learning is a chore. While physics and math are NOT easy, they can certainly be easier.

While tutoring, I diagnose the student's capabilities and focus on the areas that need assistance. We practice problem solving and I help the student understand the concepts and the mathematics behind the solution approaches. I also ask questions to help the student build deeper insights and to help prepare for exams. When needed, I help students with organization, study skills, and test preparation.

Where:
We can meet at your home (within the radius specified on my WyzAnt profile), or at a convenient public location (e.g., a Public Library). An adult must be present during the tutoring sessions for students under 18.

I also do Online Sessions, which allows us to share our screens and take notes on key concepts and strategies as we go. College Students, who are not local, frequently take advantage of my Online sessions.

Education and Background:
M.S. in Physics from the University of New Hampshire (ABD)
Pew Scholar Research and Teaching assistant at Cornell University
B.A. in Astronomy and Physics (with Honors) from Colgate University
M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instructions from Fitchburg State University (in progress)

I graduated high school at 16 (skipping middle school), and graduated college at 20. While doing my undergraduate studies at Colgate University, I took on a senior research project to build a device that measured surface roughness of thin-film surfaces. I am told that this device is still in use at Colgate today.

After I graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. and Honors in Astronomy and Physics, I was awarded a Pew Scholarship to be a Research and Teaching Assistant at Cornell University, where I built an infrared photomultiplier to study radiation from newly-forming stars. We used this device with the Hale Telescope at Palomar mountain in CA. At Cornell, I assisted professors with various undergraduate Astronomy and Physics courses.

After Cornell, I was offered funding to attend the graduate program at the University of New Hampshire. Throughout my education, I continued to offer academic assistance to my peers and tutored many students.

For the majority of my professional career, I have worked as a professional Technical Writer and Information Architect, specializing in delivering science, math, and engineering information online.

I look forward to working with you and helping you to accomplish your absolute best!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am an experienced tutor in Algebra 1, well versed in helping students master Equations and Inequalities, Linear Functions, Systems of Equations and Inequalities, Exponents and Exponential Functions, Polynomials and Factoring, Quadratic Functions and Equations, Radical Expressions and Equations, Rational Expressions and Functions, and Data Analysis and Probability.

I look forward to working with you soon!

Algebra 2

I am an experienced tutor in Algebra 2, helping students master Expressions, Equations and Inequalities, Functions, Equations, and Graphs. Once you have mastered the basics, we can work on Linear Systems, Quadratic Functions and Equations, Polynomials and Polynomial Functions, Radical Functions and Rational Exponents. We can then dive into Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Rational Functions, Sequences and Series, Quadratic Relations and Conic Sections, and Probability and Statistics. Depending on your course and needs, we can also cover Matrices, Periodic Functions, and Trigonometric Identities and Equations.

I look forward to working with you!

Calculus

I am an experienced tutor in calculus, helping students master Continuity and Limits, Derivatives and Differentiation, Applications of Differentiation, Integration, Applications of Integration, Differential Equations, and Sequences and Series.

I look forward to studying calculus with you!

Physics

I am an experienced physics teacher, certified in Massachusetts. I have an M.S. (ABD) in physics from the University of New Hampshire and have tutored and helped many students feel comfortable with physics. Think it's impossible? Just give me a try! Whether you are feeling completely lost or a getting ready for your AP Physics exam, I can help make it much easier. We can work together to get you to feel right at home with Kinematics, Newton's Laws, Circular Motion and Gravitation, Work and Energy, Linear Momentum, Rotational Motion, Static Equilibrium, Fluids, Vibrations and Waves, Sound, Temperature, Heat, Electricity and Magnetism, Light, Optics, Special Theory of Relativity, Models of the Atom, Nuclear Physics, and Elementary Particles.

Trigonometry

I am a licensed teacher who enjoys teaching science and mathematics to help you do your best. Trigonometry is where you learn about triangles. Together we can master things like angles in degrees and radians, trig functions and their graphs, relationships between trig functions, inverses of trig functions, trig equations, and complex numbers! I look forward to helping you with trigonometry.
